Weird question I know but...black specks in a butter cookie?

I know it's a weird question but I just bought cookies that I haven't had in many many years. The ones in the blue tin, Royal Dansk. I see some of the cookies have a black speck or two in them. Seemed odd to me, based on the ingredients. So my question is, could the black specks be from the wheat flour they are made with?

Could be vanilla

That was my thought, but I never remember them being in those royal dansk cookies (those are some of my FAVES!).

I've definitely seen black specks in the round ones before. I assumed it was vanilla or a tiny bit of burned something..likely vanilla

OK weird, I just bought these for the first time in probably a decade like two days ago, LOL. You didn't happen to be at Walgreen's did you?

I would say check the website for an ingredient list, but this is the bull shit they list Chat Icon so clearly, being pretentious is the main ingredient!

Well I have not had these cookies in probably 15 years or more. They remind me of my grandma too. That's why I bought them.

However, I am sad to tell you they are not what they used to be. The tin is flatter and smaller. And the pretzel ones, also my favorite, no longer have those big salt like sugar bits on top...I said that to my DH today...these cookies are different. The sugar on top is not the same.Chat Icon

Re: Weird question I know but...black specks in a butter cookie?

Btw, I bought them at Stop and Shop if anyone wants to go buy them. And while you are at it, if you do, please tell me if yours have black specks in them. LOL

Also...I do think some of you may have hit the nail on the head. Could be vanilla. I didn't even think of vanilla bean, but the ingredients do list Vanilla (it says natural flavor, vanilla). So that could be it!! That's why I love these boards. Really truly I do.

The tin does list ingredients though, so they aren't keeping a secret. LOL

I would say vanilla beans rather than vanilla extract.
