Re: Well, I put it off long enough
DS had general anesthesia at 6 months old, I was the most nervous about not feeding him, but that was fine! He was groggy after, but was back to himself in no time. My advice would be to make sure someone experienced in pediatrics puts in the IV as that was our only complaint. Its tough, but its harder on us than it is on them!!!

Re: Well, I put it off long enough
DS went under at 6 months for his frenulectomy. I was a wreck too. Honestly though, when the morning came I just kept very focused. I was almost robotic. I was able to be in the OR while he went under and then they quickly escorted me out. It all happened so quick that I think I may have said to the nurse "that's it?".
Most people are very disoriented when they wake up from anesthesia (adults an children). I went under once for oral suregery and woke up hysterically crying and shivering uncontrollably.
After DS's surgery they brought me into a room to see him after he woke up. He was sitting in a recovery chair with a nurse and I was able to feed him right away because they He happened to actually be very calm. It is not abnormal for them to be hysterical so please don't worry if that happens. There were two other babies there who were crying as they woke up. It is totally normal. I guess it's just disorientation or something.
Overall it was fine. That's not to say that I wouldn't be a wreck if he had to go under again. You just have to get through it, you know?
Best of luck

Re: Well, I put it off long enough
My co-worker's daughter has had many surgeries (Schneiders) and also needs anthesia for MRIs.
Take heart in that it is VERY routinely done. I know nothing is every routine when it's your own.

Finally scheduled DD's next testing for her kidneys. The one where she's put under anesthesia Early October (actually, on DH's b-day).
I'm a nervous wreck. I wish I had longer to worry about it-- less than a month.
Anyone want to share their experiences with their child going under anesthesia?
My DD had to have anesthesia for an MRI, she was 7. It was nerve wrecking for me, because I was Preggo with DS and couldnt go into the room with her because of the magnets. My DH and the nurses and Drs were with her (I warned them that she is VERY strong and will give a fight). But she did great, she slept like a baby. When she woke up, she didnt remember what had happened. She layed down for about an hour to make sure she was safe to walk out the door. She thought it was cool, and I cried like a baby. Say your prayers, DD will be fine.

Maybe it's better to not have longer to worry about it. She'll be fine.
