Well... we put on an offer on a house! --UPDATED + NEW UPDATE
I had previously posted that I was interested in putting an offer on a house, but the offer was pretty low -- asking price 429k -- offer 379k--
Well, this morning, I called the realtor and put in an offer of 380k. The realtor said that they will probably counter this, which is fine, but we will only go up to 390- 395 max. The house just isn't worth anything over that in my opinion. If it doesn't work out, it wasn't meant to be our house. I really like it though, so I hope it does work out! Wish me luck!!!
UPDATE--
Well, they countered....with only 5k less.
That is still too high for us. I don't think that we will be able to come to a compromise, which stinks....
LATEST UPDATE:
Well, I decided not to call the realtor, but he called me today and asked if we wanted to counter their counter-offer, so I said 390-395 is my top offer. Unfortunately, they refuse to budge. Oh, well, I guess that they are just not ready to go. Back to house hunting!

Definitely! We did a LOT of counteroffers back & forth - all in all keeping in mind what our final number would be.
We ended up getting $5k under our final PLUS the realtor threw in one of the home warranties.
You just never know....GOOD LUCK!

When we sold, I only came down 7K at first and then settled on 14K in the end.

don't worry...if it's not this one, it will be another one. This seller may not be realistic about what s/he can get for their house in this market. Good luck!

Don't give up. Counter at 390. If they say no walk away. They may call back. That is what happened to us.

Thanks! I think I am going to wait a few days and let them think that we lost interest, and then I will call with 390 as my final offer. If they say no, then I will say that if they decide down the line that they will go for this, to call, if not, good luck!

Counter again. Your offer wasn't really that unreasonable a starting place. You have 2 options - come up a little and see what happens or go up to your max and say "This is as high as we will go, take it or leave it."

Are you looking in Nassau or suffolk?
