went into my NewBorn Bins and...UPDATE with results after wash

A LOT of the clothes from my DD (4 yrs) and DS (almost 3 yrs) have VERY LARGE yellow stains on them...esp the white/lighter items...I KNOW i wouldn't have saved them or put them away THAT dirty..It is so weird the stains came to while hanging out in the rubber bins in my attic! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Good thing I didnt wait until AFTER Chat Icon #3 was born to get it ready! I am due in 2.5 weeks!!

Since I didnt know the sex with both DD and DS I have a bunch of gender neutral stuff...but majority has stains! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I am trying now to bleach what I can and see if I can salvage any of it!

WOW! Wasn't expecting it to be THAT bad!

Sorry just had to vent!

Did anyone else get this lucky surprise when going into older siblings clothes to get ready for NB?!?!?

****************************

UPDATE: I am happy to report -

2 washes of a combo of:
--pretreating most with Spray & Wash with Resolve,
--bleach
--Borax
--Baking Soda

then an extra rinse cycle to make sure we got rid of all possible Bleach residue

THE STAINS ALL CAME OUT!! Chat Icon Chat Icon

The white stuff looks WHITE WHITE!! YAY! No unexpected shopping spree! HAHA!

THanks for all the suggestions!

try letting it sit in oxyclean for a while (hours) and don't put them in the dryer. just wash them. also try spraying them with lemon juice, diluted, and putting them out in the sun for a long time.

If I put all the clothes outside that had stains I would look like I was having a yard sale all over my front property! HAHAHA!

I will def try to soak and wash a couple times before putting in the dryer...

If not lemon juice...do you think vinegar would work? that always seems to be the ans when people talk about cleaning! HAHA!

I have something similar to oxi-clean I will try that on the stuff I didn't bleach or if the bleach doesn't work! I only soaked for 15 min (a cycle on my machine) I will also try to soak longer if I have no luck!

Thanks ladies!

Re: went into my NewBorn Bins and...

this happened when we opened boxes of clothes from my cousin who was born in 95. my aunt was finally getting rid of them and let me look through to see if i wanted anything. besides them being ridiculously out of date, most of them were soiled with yellow stains. it's from the formula, over time the stains come out.

Re: went into my NewBorn Bins and...

honestly, when I did this, the lemon juice worked best. i don't know about vinegar but i think it is the acid in the lemon juice that does it. i laid them out all over our backyard and i don't care what the neighbors thought!

yes!!!

my daughter was not a spitup kid at all. Never even used the bibs.

I put the clothes away & took them out 1 year later. Covered in yellow blobs. I tossed them all. I'm all for hand me downs, but you shouldn't have to wear someone else's spit up stains.

So glad it worked out! And thankful for the laundry suggestions in case I run into the same problem!
