Teenage boys selling stuff from bins, door to door?

Does anyone know what organization they're selling for?
I don't see them in our neighborhood that often, but last night when we were bathing the kids at 7:30 and our doorbell rang. It was a teenage boy selling items out of a plastic bin (he had a lemon scented candle, a bag of tootsie rolls, and a box of chocolate chip cookies).
We didn't buy anything, but I was just wondering if anyone knows what org. sends teenage boys out with bins in the evening?
Seems weird to me, no?

I never buy from them, I'm not sure it's a legitimate organization.

There is no legit organization. Most of the times they work for a "candy pimp" that drops kids off in neighborhoods to sell this stuff at a profit.

They are legit. In order to sell in our village they are thoroughly checked out.

I forgot what organization but I will find out and get back to youChat Icon

Yep.

Suffolk County cops have busted these pimps a few times in my town.

We usually call the cops if we see the kids being dumped on the corner.

I have seen a car drop off 2 or 3 kids in my office complex of building with their bins - no adult supervision - and everything looks like it came from the $1 store.

Re: Teenage boys selling stuff from bins, door to door?

They were walking past my house on Friday as I was getting home. One boy saw me pull my car in the driveway and starting walking all the way up my driveway. He practically met me at my car door Chat Icon

They said it's for a non-profit that helps kids stay off the streets and out of drugs. Showed me a flyer and all Chat Icon I pulled out my wallet and showed them that there was literally NO money in it....and they still wouldn't stop badgering. I even explained that I understand and work for a non-profit as a substance abuse counselor, lol. Eventually I just had to say NO and that was it.

I read in the paper last year that they do this illegally, and they are trying to see who is home, what the house layout is - so they can come back and rob you!

I'm going to try to find the article now.

whenever kids are selling for a school or organization, they are supposed to sell things that have the insignia of the organization they are selling for.Scam

It's been on the news before and in the paper. I've seen tham at BJs, Walmart and other places. What they do is go to BJs or Costco and buy the big things and then sell them bc it looks like they got it from an organization. But if you do your research, companies like M&Ms make special sized bags for these charities with the logo on it so you have something to write off on your taxes.

completely not legit. they take them and drop them off on a corner where they are required to sell a certain amount of a garbage product for a nonsense "organization". they even have printouts of information of the "organization". they pay them peanuts and there is little to no supervision for these kids.

I did not think this was legit. The last time this happened the kid was ringing my bell, and knocking on my door and trying to look in the window on top of my front door. We called the police.

Most of these "kids" look 25 and claim they're selling for their HS basketball team. That always makes me laugh.

If I see them coming, I won't answer the door.

I've made this a rule and it's just easier. I say we don't participate in door-to door solicitation. That includes signing petitions.

I read once that these groups are not legit and whoever said "candy pimp" described it correctly.

Exactly, everytime we see them in our area we hear about local robberies and break ins.
