Went to 8 month Ped. visit. Have questions!
First, doc said we should try feeding ds egg yolks, then after a week, try egg whites. Also on the menu were pancakes, waffles, pastina, yogurt, meatballs, meatloaf, and even chicken nuggets! When i asked if they should be pureed, he said no, just small and mashed. I can't imagine giving my 8 month old pancakes and nuggets. He doesn't even have teeth yet! I know he can "gum" it, but doesn't that sound too young for some of those foods?

I don't think it sounds too young... DD was completely off baby food by 9 months and she didn't have any teeth...well, she got 1 around 9 months.... but they don't chew with their front bottom teeth anyway...

Gums are hard enough to chew pretty much anything but nuts, so the teeth thing isn't an issue. I don't remember the exact month, but I know we were giving DC food well before a year.

Caden had all of them at that age..he's 9 months now and only has one tooth.
Actually the only thing I havent given him are the eggs. My ped says a year and Im not in any rush to start. I probably wont wait a year (I did 9 months with my older kids)...

How big, or small should i cut up the food? i have such an irrational fear of him choking, especially the first time i give him reg food, since i'm so used to just spoon feeding him, and all he looks like is just taking and swallowing, barely chewing

IMO it depends on the child and how well they are chewing . If your DC is doing good the I would slowly start the food. It isn't like you jump straight to the nuggets.
Mt DS is 8 mos and I am starting egg yolk this weekend

I don't think so. My older DD had no teeth until she turned ONE! She was eating all that stuff. I would just start slow and make the pieces reaaallly tiny!

Parker is eating some of that now. Loves pancakes etc... start with the easy stuff, and let your DC figure out chewing, took Parker a bit to get it, and now he wants nothing to do with baby food.
He is officially a puffaholic, (thats what I started with)

I would mash whatever you give him to start. Like pancakes, I would mash up with a little fruit juice or applesauce.
Have you ever given DS any solids other than babyfood (stages 1,2 and 3)?

I haven't even tried stage 3 yet...today i gave him small pieces of bananas mashed with formula and mixed with oatmeal cereal, and it looked like he was either gagging or choking on the banana pieces, so i'm scared to try anything so solid, even if small..think i'm going to try with puffs today
