Went to my first LLL meeting today!
So, my midwife has been hounding my ASSSSSSS to go to a La Leche League meeting!
I finally went to one this morning! I was a little weary because I have heard that some groups can be really tough and are really hardcore!
I am SO GLAD I WENT!!!! It was awesome!!! The moms there were so normal and down to earth, they seem to be a pretty relaxed but VERY supportive group!!!
The meeting ran about 2.5 hours and moms would come and go with their kids as they please!
I found a few moms that are also doing cloth diapers and babywearing and they were able to answer a whole bunch of questions for me on that.
There were moms there who EBF, pumped and BF, BF and supplemented a whole slew of combinations. Everyone was very sweet and encouraging.
I got the names and numbers of a few moms that said they would come and help me in a heartbeat if I have ANY problems BFing after I give birth so that was very encouraging and positive to hear!
I'm hoping to make the Feb meeting before I give birth!
For anyone that is thinking of BFing I HIGHLY HIGHLY reccomend you try one of these meetings, not just for teh BFing support but its basically a "MOM" support group!!! They not only talk about BFing but nutrition, parenting, diapering, peds reccomendations EVERYTHING!!!
I'm really excited that I have found a group of moms that I can rely on for info and support!!

my hospital has a bfing support group that meet up every weds.. I always wanted to attend but never made it.

I'm glad you enjoyed it! I looked into in when DD was a baby, but I didn't find much in the area.

I went to a LLL meeting when I was on LI once, and when my son was born I had a lady from LLL come to my house to help me. They are lovely, and it can be a good way to meet people. One lady even gave me a sling!

by the way, where it says online that it is $40 to join, you don't have to join LLL to go to the meetings. If you do join your memebership gets you a subscription to the LLL magazine that is suppose to be super helpful....
So there is no monetary requirement to go !!!!

They have meetings the 2nd Monday of every month around the corner from me Unfortunately I've missed this months meeting but maybe I can catch February's meeting!!

AWESOME! I am actually new to my town in CT and I don't knwo very many people so it was SOoooo nice to interact with some moms that are open and warm!!!
It makes me feel more at ease being 35 weeks PG that I can call any of these women in a heartbeat and they will help me/guide me with whatever I may need!!!

I don't think its ever too early..... The more information you can get earlier on the easier things will be for you! Go when you are ready and you can start developing friendships with the women, hear about others problems/ concerns and how they fixed it.

that's what i was just going to ask. i've been wanting to go but i felt like i was too early and their website doesn't give any recommendations as to what week to start. you really think the earlier the better?

I think if you are ready to go to the meeting you should go! The women are very receptive to PG women being there and wish more would attend during their pregnancy. It helps to hear moms talk about different issues and I think its great preparation for breast feeding!!!
