Went to the Ringling Bros circus over the weekend...

and I can say that I wasn't overly impressed. I haven't been to it since I was little and from what I remember it was definitely more enjoyable as a kid, lol. The "Ring leader" did a lot of singing and had a TERRIBLE, annoying voice. He definitely should not be the center of it all.

And I was VERY sad about the tigers. Well, for the elephants too, but mainly the tigers. Now I love tigers, but the 15 tigers they had there were so scared of the trainer. They looked like dogs when you yell at them for peeing on the floor. Their heads were so submissive, etc. My DH said they beat their animals to train them because they're tigers. Well, I didn't really think about it until I saw how scared they were to be there. I can definitely see them all attacking him at some point because they're tired of it. It's definitely not right. There were also protestors there saying how they beat their animals. Chat Icon It's very sad to say the least. The other stuff was ok. It's just so different and not my thing as an adult. I'm glad I didn't pay for it. My sister treated all of us. My DD (15 months old) was dancing and clapping and the boys enjoyed it, but I don't know if I'd ever go back for future shows. Just my 2 cents. And I saw the show in Raleigh, NC so maybe the show up in NY is better? I hope, lol! Chat Icon

We went a couple of years ago at Nassau Colliseum, and it was a snooze fest. The best part was before the show where the kids could participate in various activities.

Re: Went to the Ringling Bros circus over the weekend...

My DS or any future children will NEVER see a live circus in their lives because I refuse to fund such animal abuse.

I get so sad and angry when I hear about people going to the circus and are all excited about it.

There is nothing exciting about seeing those poor poor helpless animals do "tricks" for the entertainment of people.

I think its a sick tradition and all animal involvement should be banned and against the law. If people want to be entertained by watching balancing acts and ring of fire hopping let a human do it.

Sorry, I just despise the circus Chat Icon

Ditto. DD and any other children we have will never go. It's just too sad. Animals shouldn't be performers.

PETA has proven that Ringling beats their elephants. We will never support "The Cruelest Show on Earth!"

I went at MSG cause it seemed so thrilling to do so. Hubby got me tickets. It was meh. Glad I saw it but wouldnt go again.

I do however look forward to the Shriner circus that comes once a year here. Different vibe. They have elephants and tigers but they seemed well cared for. But what do *I* know?

It has mostly people 'acts'.

But I highly second the Cirque du soleil!!!!

Same here. After learning about what happens to those poor animals I haven't gone back. I have no desire to bring DD there...although sometimes I feel bad she'll never go to a circus. Seems like something most kids would enjoy but I can't in good conscience do it.

I completely agree. As a matter of fact PearljamChick (I think thats her name) turned me onto how abusive the circus is. I was horrified when I saw some of the videos. They brought me to tears. I will never support any form of "entertainment" that is cruel to an animal....or a person (just to clarifyChat Icon ).

ITA

I made a decision even before I had children, that I wouldn't expose them to such abuse. It is unnatural behavior for the animals.

I hope that the day comes that this animal abuse is no longer allowed.

Re: Went to the Ringling Bros circus over the weekend...

ITA. I went when I was a kid and don't remember loving it. As an adult I will not go nor bring my children. Besides my heartache for the animals, as I get older, clowns seem a little creepy to me. Is this just me ??

I used to feel bad about zoos, but as a PP said, they live a good life. I've seen how much the caretakers love the animals. Plus it helps preserve endangered species.
