We're idiots-car seat related-UPDATED
Anyone else have an issue with the Britax Marathon? Apparently it needs to be tethered under the front seats as well as with the LATCH. The only spot we have to tether is very sharp and would cut the material. Also rear facing the seats have such an angle that you cannot put the front seats back at all. SO I think we are going to switch it up. The carseat installer recommended Evenflow Triumph seats. Anyone have them? Or have another reco for a smaller safe carseat?

I've heard the Britax are hard to install but I don't have them so I don't know. I do have the Evenflo Triumph and love it! I think most convertable seats are big though so you may not gain that much room. Oh and I never heard of tethering them to the front seat Guess thats a Britax thing??

I think the Graco Comfortsport is smaller and it is rated very well and is approximately $69-$100

We have the First Years true fit and it also needs to be teethered in the back. It is a great seat! The twins love it!

Same here - gets the highest safety ratings, but half the cost of the Britax. We love it

Stacey-did you use it rear facing? Did it take up a lot of room? The issue is my DH is 6'4 and has long azz legs

Re: We're idiots-car seat related
maxi cosi priori... we have 2. they even fit into my husband's small car. They're super comfy, easy to install (w/ latch... no back tethers) and even pretty good looking.
I believe if it were behind the passenger seat in my prius, DH would still have enough leg room (he's 6'3"). we're happy all around.

I have the Evenflo Triumph, but it was only big enough for Ava until she was about 2. Then I bought the Britax Husky that goes up to 80 lbs.
The Triumph is a good seat, easy to use and comfortable.

So has anyone used the marathon rear facing with or without the top tether?

Not the marathon but we used the boulevard rear facing without the top tether.

Re: We're idiots-car seat related
Actually, the Britax is one of the few (the only?) seat to have the option of tethering rear-facing. That's a GOOD thing. But 1) it's optional, and 2) you *should* be able to find a spot to tether it.
We have the Roundabout, which is just a bit smaller than the Marathon, and had NO problems with space in the car when it was rear-facing. Perhaps that's an option?

i was just going to say - you don't HAVE to tether, it's just an option. because of how our cars are set up (we have a honda accord and a jeep) we chose not to tether. we have both a marathon and a roundabout.

Re: We're idiots-car seat related
we have both the britax marathon and roundabout. the roundabout is a little smaller and it may be better for you if you have a space issue.
we got the evenflo for my in-laws car and we took it with us on vacation 2x and we were very happy with it as well. space-wise though, i think its about the same size as the roundabout.

Re: We're idiots-car seat related-UPDATED
So we put the Marathon in rear facing and tethered to the seat frame that the seats sit on. They are totally secure and work well. Thanks for all the help. I did call Britax(which by the way is pronounce BRY tax which I had always called it Britax with the short i) they also said that the tether is an option not a requirement. Thanks everyone!

When I had mine installed the installer (my bffs aunt) took the top tether and tied it tight to the rail that the passenger seat glided on. The car is older, and there is no place to use the top tether.

Re: We're idiots-car seat related-UPDATED
we have the marathon, we do not have it teethered... in my rav4 i had to have my seat up alittle, but in the van it is fine... there is a website out there that actually rates the car seats based on what fits best in your car... and it is rated by actual consumers....
