Re: Were you in a sorority/fraternity?
I was. DH wasn't. They didn't have any at his college but I don't think he'd have done it anyway. Though, I had sworn I would never, but then after my roommate pledged and through her I got to know a lot of the sisters, I ended up doing it and loving it. Went to my 10 year reunion a few weeks ago and saw soo many of the girls I knew then and it was awesome.

I was.
My freshman year I swore I would never do that and was very dissinterested. Thought it was weird..but somehow in my 2nd semseter I tried at last minute and it was one of the best things I did in college.

i was the same way.. NEVER thought i'd ever do it- but it was one of the best college expereinces. And, now, it annoys me when people say 'i would NEVER do that, etc..." b/c i feel like they have no clue what theyre talking about- the same way my feelings really had no real basis except for what i had heard or seen on TV

I'm the opposite... I always thought it'd be great, tried it, and couldn't WAIT to get out. I mean...anyone who cares about how much I can funnel or whether or not I have acrylic nails can bite me.

true.... all sororities haev different personalities though. and its pointless to pledge if its with a bunch of people that have completely different interests than you--- if my sorority cared about acrylic nails... i wouldnt have lasted a minute with them

Yes I was (AEPHI)
me too! me LBG30, Diana1215 and KRWM were all sorority sisters. We couldn't get shopaholic to pledge though lol
what was the point of my pledging and paying dues when I was friends with all of you sluts anyway without having to eat onions covered in mayo...
uhoh.. Diana's gonna yell at me now isn't she??

Re: Were you in a sorority/fraternity?
I did formal rush and didn't get a bid from a sorority I liked, but got one from one I really didn't want to be in, so I turned them down and joined a co-ed service fraternity and met a good friend who eventually introduced me to my DH. That good friend was our best man.

I always wanted to but never did. Leo had no intrest in it at all. I worked a lot too so had little spare time.
I loved all the steppers though at my college.

Re: Were you in a sorority/fraternity?
I THink everyone's experience is different but i really regretted joining one. For one, I was like some of you....i would never "pay" to have friends and i have my own friends i don't need anymore. I did it because some of the girls on my sports team did it and raved about the sorority. So i pledged for 10 weeks of pure hell. I'm sorry, all they kept saying was everything i was going through in pledging would make sense once i was in the sorority. Well lineups in the middle of night in mud and not allowing me to shower for a week never really got me to understand. THey went so far as to lock us in a basement at a fraternity house with the frats pledge class. I had enough and stormed out at 1am. To my surprise the frat guys were drinking and not one sorority sister was around. Nice....
After we were initiated i didn't wear my letters for weeks. I had no pride in it. After i came back that summer i enjoyed some of the mixers and parties, but i never went to the formals. I became assistant pledge mom the next semester to try and make the hazing a little less but could do nothing.
And probably my biggest issues was the talking about people. I literally got to a point where i was afraid to leave a room because if you got up and left the girls would start talking about you. It made me sick.
After i graduated (i was inactive my senior year) i stayed close to none of them. I heard a lot of them wound up being in each others wedding parties, but to me their friendships were very fake. I can only hope they learned how to make real ones after they got into the real world.
