"Wet" cough? Please Help!
DS started coughing yesterday - not frequently but, when he did it was deep and seemed to bother him alot - and wake him. He has a bit of a runny nose and a fever too. We took him to ped today and ped said his chest sounded clear and it is prob just a virus.
Now, for the last few hours the cough has started to sound "wet." Its hard to describe other than that. It sounds almost as if he is choking on drool but ALOT of drool and it sounds like it really scares/bothers him. He cries right after he coughs. Is this normal for a cough and what can I do to help him? TIA
ETA: Is it good to use a humidifier for a wet cough? Is a vaporizer better? What about steam showers? I just don't want to make it more "wet" - I am afraid he is going to choke!

Re: "Wet" cough? Please Help!
I would call your ped - but it sounds like he is having post nasal drip - I guess from the draining from you said he had an ear infection? I would use a humidifier and make sure you give him plenty of fluids to keep it liquid. The coughing as much as it sounds bad is probably good b.c he is probably coughing it out of his chest. I don't think they give meds to kids his age to dry up the post nasal drip but you should call your ped and ask - maybe he would have further ideas on how to make him comfortable.
