What a mess.... update got a call back from Kraupners
In Aug 2009 I did an IVF cycle with Dr. B that resulted in my 2.5 yr old DS. Unfortunately no eggs made it to freeze. Fast forward to the present and DH and I are ready to try for #2. I will be 39 in March so time is an issue for me. I called my insurance company and they advised that I used all of my 20k lifetime max for my 2009 IVF cycle. I was a little confused seeing as I only had 1 ivf cycle. Then I found the issue: Back in 2009 when the Dr. prescribed my meds for the cycle he had Kraupners send over 2 cycles worth of medication totaling over $12k with is counted towards my lifetime max. We arranged for Kraupners to come back to my home and they picked up half the meds leaving me enough for only one cycle. Problem is…Kraupners NEVER credited my insurance for the $6k worth of returned medication!!! It never really crossed my mind to check with the insurance company that they were credited properly because I just figured that between Kraupners and the insurance comp everything would get settled. Now here I am 3 years later and this is a mess!! I’ve been on hold with the insurance company for over 2 hours now trying to get this settled. I haven’t even called Kraupners yet because I don’t even have any paperwork so I supposed its my word against theirs. I’m hoping when I call them they will have it on file that I returned the $6k worth of meds. I know it’s a LONG shot but has something like this ever happened to anyone and can you tell me the outcome.
11/14 update: I got a call back from a very nice woman from Kraupners who's trying to help me out and get this settled....she seemed very sincere. I just hope it all works out. I'm such a mess over this. My stomach is in knots.

Re: What a mess....
OMG..so sorry that happened. Well Kraupners should have a record, no? This is just unacceptable...you did not max out plain and simple. There was an error and it has to be fixed!!

I really am so frustrated. I know I had written down on a piece of paper what I returned and had the delivery guy sign it. I'm hoping I can find that.

Re: What a mess....
I really hope Kraupners is able to help you out there!! Not that it matters who the real blame falls on here, but personally I'd pisssssed at Dr.B's office for this one... They should have known your coverage and ordered just what you needed at the time.

What a mess....
meds are usually covered separately under a prescription drug plan as part of your health insurance, and shouldn't even come out of your lifetime maximum. and even if you got two cycles worth with reduced rates that insurance companies work with i can't fathom how that would ever total $12k. was this when dr. B was with AFS? because back then AFS did a lot of dr. B's billing and they were terrible (which worked out well for some of us and bad for others). have you spoken with dr. B's office about any of this? anyway hopefully you can get it sorted out!!

I agree that $12k sounds out of control high, but my lifetime max includes IVF drugs, even though I have a separate drug plan. It sucks.
