What a scary weekend, sorry kinda long
On Wednesday night my DS developed a rash, it was onlly three little bumps. Thursday morning when he woke up, it was all over his thighs. By the time we got to the doctors office it was on the sides of his stomach and on his face. Prior to this he has been healthy (no fevers, runny nose, cough....nothing). The doctor said he is having an allergic reaction to something and to give him Zyrtec (sp?). By Friday it is covering him head to toe and by 6 pm, he has a temp of 101F. I call on the call doctor who said it sounded like it could wait to be seen in the morning, unless anything else changed. So we go to the office in the morning and they look at him and tell me to bring him to Stony Brook ER to have an infectious disease doctor look at him. They had to catherize him, and take blood (and being 8 months old, and so swollen and bruised (also from the rash) they couldn't find a vein). They decided to admit him for observation. They let him come home tonight, though he is still running a fever. They don't know the cause but it is erythemia multi-formae (red rash with multiple forms). It could be viral, in relation to a medication, or something he ate (and he is still BF, so it could be something I ate). We still have to go back to the doctors tomorrow (though they may never know what caused it). I feel so bad for the little guy!!!
