What age did you start solids?

OK please don't flame me but what age did you start solids? I know many peds say to wait 4-6 months but honestly my family is Hispanic and they are all like she's ready for solids. All the kids in my family started solids around 3 months old. DD will be 12 weeks old tomorrow...do you think it's too early? I bought some applesauce and thinking of trying that. She's always hungry and drinks a full 6oz every 2.5-3 hours and she gets cereal in her milk at night (which the ped said was OK BTW) So how early did you start? TIA.

our doctor told us we could start at DS 3 month appt, but we waited till he was 5 months

4 months exactly, he was hungry all the time so we started to give him cereal...

We started at 6 months, but she didn't really have any interest in them until about 7.5 months.

Upon recommendation of my ped at that age (3 months), I would only start solids if DD needed more food and milk wasn't cutting it .

The older generation believes in feeding early and that goes for most ethinic backgrounds. We are probably going to delay solids past the 4 month mark and take some **** from our parents.

My milk was not cutting it so at 5 months he got rice cereal. We started peas at 5 1/2 months. So far DS has had: rice, oatmeal, peas, carrots, apples, sweet potatoes, and bananas. We think he is allergic to bananas b/c he cot a rash and his hands blew up in size.

DS got sick this week so I made chicken soup from scratch and gave him the broth. He seemed to really like it. DS is 6 months old.

I started at 4 1/2 months. She was 95% height and weight and formula just wasn't enough for my piggly wiggly. So we started cereal for a couple of weeks.

As for starting early - I was reading my DH's baby book and apparently he ate jarred meats, veggies, fruits and cereal at 2 months. He's alive, fine and far from obese. If you think your DC is ready, then try it.

Noah started at 4-5 months, he wasnt ready ..at 6 months he really was..

I would research it if I were you. Theres a lot of reasons NOT to start early that they have discovered since we were all kids. And then make the best decision for your family.

Just before 4 months.

Just because you are starting solids doesn't mean that you are giving them three squares a day. Trying a little cereal will most likely be ok.

We got the OK to start solids at DD's 3 1/2 month check up.

Oh geez!!! I know exactly what it's like to deal with family pushing foods and other things. My baby was born at 11 1/2 pounds. He looked like he should be eating steak!

I have been breastfeeding him since day one. I did supplement with formula in the first few weeks for medical reasons (I was in the hospital too long and hadn't established a supply for him to eat at home.) EVERYBODY related to DH told me to give him food and 20,000 bottles per day.

He is thriving today at 5 1/2 months. I exclusively breastfeed him. At his 4 month appt the pediatrician said I could start some cereal. I asked if I continued to BF him, if I was damaging his growth or keeping a certain vitamin from him. She said no, just some parents look for something different at 4 months. So, I guess if we were BORED we could add cereal. Our doctor said at 6 months we could begin to add cereal and vitamins. That's fine with us.

It's up to you and your doctor. Every baby is different. Don't listen to what family says. DH's family said I should be drinking wine for celebration when I found out I was pregnant.
Talk with your pediatrician and ask what you are doing for your baby. Every baby is different when it comes to nutrition. Good luck!

ds will be 4 months next week, but i am hoping to delay as much as possible, ideally until 6 months because allergies run in our families.

I started at 3.5 mos with both my boys. I had planned to wait the full 4 mos but both boys are/were big boys and stopped sleeping thru the night looking for more food so it was my signal they needed something else. My ped recommended it rather than more formula since they were already drinking 32 oz and they preferred me stay under 32 oz in a day. I started with rice cereal for a full week and did it slowly and then did all cereals 3-4 days to a week. I waited until about 4.5 mos with both to introduce fruit since I wasn't into rushing it.

i waited until 5 1/2 months...my ped sai their digestive systems are not really able to handle solids before this time...there really is no rush

We started cereal at 3 months...and I started the foods at 4 months under our Ped's reccomendation.

We started a week before he turned 4 mos. Just oatmeal cereal 1x a day. After 2 weeks I upped it to 2x a day.
