My DD is still little but I see the older girls at her school and honestly they look borderline feral. Nothing is coordinated, their hair isn’t brushed. And then they have golden goose sneakers so you know they’re not poor, just choosing to look unkempt. I’m sure I’ll eat my words one day and all my effort in sending my DD to school perfectly coordinated down to her bow and shoes will be for nothing. But she’s never getting a $600 sweatshirt.
Oh this was my daughter when she was little! All matching, cute bows in her little pigtail buns, little boutique dresses that I would sew according to whatever theme they had going on (Dr. Seuss, Firehouse visit day, etc.). She was so cute back then! Now she's in 9th grade. Borders on feral looking when going to school. Some days are better than others.

My DD went through the feral stage last year, but this year, in middle school , she is super into her looks. Picks out an outfit the night before, tries things on, tries different hair styles to see what looks best with said outfit, etc. She even raids my closet and tries to wear some of my stuff- oversized as it is on her, she will tie up a top or wear one of my sweaters with leggings as an oversized top. lol I'm very proud of her fashion sense and I like to think it had to do with all the tutus and hair bows and matching outfits I used to put her in when she was younger!

At the middle school drop off the kids all wear black leggings and a hoodie sweatshirt. I rarely (if ever) see girls wearing jeans. Occasionally a girl will wear baggy sweatpants. Coats are very rare also (they have access to their lockers, but apparently a lot of them get dropped off and don't like to have to stop at their lockers). They wear addidas, converse or Vans sneakers. I rarely see Uggs, but on occasion that is the only boots I've noticed.
I m honestly so surprised as I don't think this look is particularly flattering. I'm not so sure about brands. My daughter is so clueless and couldn't care less, so I try to keep a look out for her.
Ummm I wear leggings and sweatshirts everyday. If I didn’t work from home or when I do go out somewhere with friends if it’s not summer then it’s usually leggings and a sweater with some kind of boot.
I hate jeans so I get why kids don’t want to wear them.
My dd is in 5th grade and she switches from Jeans and leggings now. But before that she would never wear jeans just leggings.
I am actually surprised on how many people care what their kids look like when they go to school and I’m not saying you it’s just reminding me of a thread I saw on Facebook when someone said is it OK for kids to wear pajama pants to school and so many people are like no they should be in jeans they should be dressed up blah blah blah blah blah. Sweats only on gym day (my 3rd grade son right now refuses to wear jeans or he wears are sweat pants) I definitely will be the parents that doesn’t care what my kids wear if it’s sweats or jeans or even pjs.
I don't get the pjs thing, AT.ALL and don't get why people can't just change into pants. There are SO many different options out there to be comfortable. Honestly, the majority of the pants I wear are stretchy now. Even my jeans are stretchy and that is why I love wearing them.
I think it goes back to the old saying, dress for success. We were always told when I was younger that we had to dress for school because it puts us in a different mindset. Who knows lol. School starts so early now I'm just happy they aren't naked. I can barely see what they are wearing when they leave lol.
We dressed for everything it seems, school, going out to eat, church, etc.
I don’t know about school starting any earlier as I was out of the house at 6:45 everyday as my day started just as early as they do now. It’s a different (lazy and actually disgusting if they are not even cleaning up to go out for the day) mindset for these kids and I have seen adults out too with pajamas.
I went to Catholic school most of my life so I had an entirely different experience of having to wear a skirt every day. But as for the pajama pants, I definitely went thru a Skidz phase in middle school/early high school and those are essentially pajama pants!
My girls wear leggings only but they are super skinny and frankly jeans do not fit them well. But I always think of jeans as dressing down. I actually feel like leggings with a pair of boots and a sweater looks nicer than jeans.
OMG!!! Skidz!!!!! There is a throwback!!!! I had them in every possible color along with tons of Cavarrichi pants and B.U.M. Equipment sweatshirts. The good old days!!! LOL
Skidz were sooooo baggy and cozy. I think every generation of teens has their "go to" comfy clothes. To teens nowadays, wearing a pair of plaid pj pants is no different than wearing a pair of sweatpants. I love pajamas so who I am to judge???

I legit skeeve pajama pants in public. Did they sleep in them? Will the sleep in them after wearing them out and about? I don’t even like sending my kid to pajama day at school in them, and it’s always a fresh pair just for the school day.
I don’t particularly like leggings and don’t get this whole mom love of them, but at least upgrade to them over PJs if you’re leaving the house.
YES!!! lol. I even clean up and change mine if I am in the house all day and doing a pajama day. I can't sit around all dirty unless I am really sick and just don't have the energy.

Whenever I see this- my first thought is- I now KNOW you did not shower. Because nobody is waking up, taking off the pjs to take a shower, then putting them back on. Usually they have greasy hair to back that theory up too though
There are many people who shower at the end of the day. So I don't think it's a big deal if someone didn't shower in the morning when they woke up. Also I cant wash my hair everyday so any day after Wed. you can bet my hair is greasy, Jammies or no jammies. LOL.
Oh I get that, my dad showered at night but I just don't not feel clean after sleeping all night. I have showered at night and then still clean up in the morning as I don't feel fresh for the day.

See I don’t know if that’s true. I’m assuming people shower and then change into clean pajamas or even if they’re showering at night and not in the morning they’re still putting on clean pajamas. that’s what I would do if I was going out in pjs. Shower then put on new ones and then new ones at night. And on Xmas day that’s what we do lol. Our outfits are matching pajamas. We go to my parents house and have a late breakfast hangout then go home. But I will go to the bagel store in the morning in my pajamas and 7-Eleven in the morning in my pajamas lol

I guess I feel like if I am going to the trouble of showering I will just put on at least leggings instead of getting back in my PJ's to go out. If I'm staying home- or it's an Xmas tradition like you said- then yeah, I'll shower and put them back on. If I want the convenience of running out real quick to 7-11 or the bagel store ,I wouldn't be taking the time to shower only to put my pj's back on.. I'd just run out real quick and come home and shower.

This is what I do. I would run out un-showered in my PJs to drop off my son or get something quick. But the majority of my PJs look like sweats.
My son will wear the same thing every day and look like he got it from a ball on the floor. Even though I fold his clothes nice and neat for him to just jam it in the drawers like a hot mess. Mind you I alway had this kid dressed sharp and to the nines. It did not rub off on him. But he's 13 and as long as its clean, I couldn't care less. It could be that he wears uniform, so clothes don't interest him too much.

My uncle and Aunt as well. I shower in the morning because i need to wake my butt up. I just not everyone showers during the day. My son showers at night except sometimes on the weekends.

At that point, why wouldn't you just put on something stretchy like pajamas, like leggings or sweats or jeggings?

I guess I feel like if I am going to the trouble of showering I will just put on at least leggings instead of getting back in my PJ's to go out. If I'm staying home- or it's an Xmas tradition like you said- then yeah, I'll shower and put them back on. If I want the convenience of running out real quick to 7-11 or the bagel store ,I wouldn't be taking the time to shower only to put my pj's back on.. I'd just run out real quick and come home and shower.
I have been guilty of doing this:

Re: What are “cool” clothing brands for middle school girls?
I think this is a pretty subjective question that depends on the kid! Are they sporty? Girly? And also what your town is like. My daughter is a mix of sporty and girly. What’s big with her and her friends - Athleta girl, lululemon, aviator nation, Katie j, Denny’s. The girls wear jeans (ripped and flared mostly) and the Katie j skirts are big too… also athletic leggings and hoodies - zip up and my daughter wears a lot of tournament sweatshirts, the one trend I hate and will not buy into is the crop tops- the Katie j and lululemon mostly- I do not think they are school/practice appropriate but I seem to be in the minority!

Whenever I see this- my first thought is- I now KNOW you did not shower. Because nobody is waking up, taking off the pjs to take a shower, then putting them back on. Usually they have greasy hair to back that theory up too though

Now that I reread what I wrote I was not clear at all!! I meant on Xmas day I’ll go out in the my pjs. I actually don’t think I have left my house in pjs besides Xmas in a very very long time. I am just saying/hoping if kids are wearing pajamas they are fresh ones when they go out lol
