i have been before for work and stayed in the union square area. but that is all i know. i am looking at renting a place for a trip, and i am getting confused with all the different names....nob hill? sunnyside? etc...

what are good areas to stay -- and by good i mean: safe, easily walkable to restaurants/shops, easy access to transportation
