What are good items to buy at a thrift shop?
My friend has a place she heard about and wants to go to. But I've never been to a thrift shop. So what items are good to buy there? Dresses probably because they aren't worn very much. Anything else you suggest? Does anyone do thrift shopping?

I've scored more things for the home and TONS of stuff for school, like books, but dresses and purses.

pretty much anything that can be laundered or cleaned goes for me.... I've gotten a fair bit of furniture, clothing and accessories like belts and bags.

you mean apparel or home furnishings?
i used to wear 2nd hand jeans - esp. good broken in levis
scarves
leather jackets
there used to be a salvation army in the city where you buy it by the pound.

I bought a lily Pulitzer dress for 8 bucks at a thrift store in Virginia...I've bought clothes with the tags still attached for like $1 (jeans from arden B, an ann taylor loft shirt....I get so many compliments on the items I picked up at that thirst store and all I can thinkl when they compliment me is "if only you knew my outfit cost me like $10  as long as you wash it well...I say go for it.
If you see a nice piece of furniture though I would have it professionally steamed and cleaned before u bring it into your house. just coz u never know who owned it before and how clean they were (or weren't)

Definitely jeans, household bric-a-brac, pocketbooks/bags, sporting equipment, halloween costume pieces. The Goodwill store gets a lot of Target's leftover stuff so most of it is brand new.

I need to start.
My friend bought a brand new Ralph Lauren cashmere pullover for $10.
When I go, I'm going to look mostly for coats, costume jewelry and dresses - if I were sewing machine savvy I would probably do I ton of thrifting.
