Re: What are you reading to your 6-12m old?
DS's absolute favorite is Yummy, Yucky by Leslie Patricelli. He smiles and starts kicking his legs whenever he sees me take it out.
He also likes:
Guess How Much I Love You Panda Bear, Panda Bear What Do You See I Love You, Goodnight Freight Train Goodnight Moon Touch and Feel Baby Animals
I also try reading Dr. Seuss books (Cat in the Hat, One Fish Two Fish), Are You My Mother?, and The Giving Tree to him but his attention span isn't long enough yet and he gets bored after a few pages.

I like books with finger puppets in the middle - DD loves to hold onto them as I'm reading.

Re: What are you reading to your 6-12m old?
In My Pond In My Tree In My ... fill in the blank
In My Pond is my favorite, but they're basically the same - very short and follow the same formula so you may only want one of these but my DD's attention span can be very short so I like these for her.
Little Ladybug Little Spider, etc.
These are also part of a series - a little longer and more interesting than the In My series.
I also like Sandra Boynton books a lot - there's a bunch, you can buy the best of sets - those are all good. ETA some titles - The Going to Bed Book, Hey Wake Up, Pajama Time, Oh My Oh My Oh Dinosaurs, Fifteen Animals, Doggies, Barnyard Dance, But Not the Hippopotamus, etc. We have A LOT of these.

Re: What are you reading to your 6-12m old?
touchy-feely books (he loves "wake up little ones" and "B is for Bear") and even a noisy touchy feely book "this is my puppy" (I got it at a little childrens toy store in northport...they had some cool books).
We also do Dr. S books and any board book with elmo (books about colors, numbers, rhyming, and his fav "So Big"). New fav is "Brown Bear Brown Bear What Do You See?"
At night we have: Snuggle Up Little Ones, Goodnight Moon, A Cuddle For Little Duck, I Love You Because You're You.
This may be silly but I also do a little game with one of the books we use. It's the baby's first words book. DS opens the book to a page in it (its divided up into categories) and we look at the pictures and go on a treasure hunt trying to find the items in the book. I usually only pick 3-5 items at a time but it's a lot of repetition of vocabulary...but if you stand in the middle of the kitchen with DS and ask where the refridgerator is, he will look right at it.
