What are you WILLING to do?

I think one thing we can all agree on is that we all want things to open up as soon as possible. But, no matter when that happens, things will be different.

So, what are you willing to do, that will help stop the spread of this virus and allow different types of places to open up?

Most people on here seem to be against getting a vaccine.

Some don't want to wear masks.

Would you be willing to be scanned for a fever when you enter a restaurant, a store, a hospital (as a visitor)? What about every day when you go to work? What about also having your child also scanned wherever they go - school etc.?

Being required to use hand sanitizer at the entrance to any public place you enter?

Any other ideas of what can be done to stop the spread when things begin to re-open?

Everyone is stating all the things they WON'T do, but what are you WILLING to do once things re-open to help stop the spread?

I don't see any harm in having mine or my kids temps taken. Same with sanitizer. I think the masks will only last for so long. I don't mind them now, but Im not going to say that in 6 months I wont be throwing the damn things in the trash either.

Re: What are you WILLING to do?

Idk I am willing to do all of it. Idc if you take my temperature, I will the masks (even though I hate them), sanitizing I don’t care (that’s how it’s on the cruise).

I think the only I would hate is gloves, I think they are stupid. I think masks in schools, restaurants as a patron, and sports aren’t a scalable plan and would be a reach.

I think masks aren’t a long term solution.

I would be willing to do all of the things you mentioned. I hate wearing the masks, but I will, if that means things can go back to some semblance of "normal".

I am willing to stay home for 18 months..Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

unfortunately, I doubt my job will allow me that luxury (my company already hinted to a mid-June "official return to office" date). If that is the case, my new normal will be mask wearing constantly outside the house in areas where SD isn't possible (stores/buildings/public spaces) and use my hand sanitizer all the time.

I agree temp checks are more for optics, I would love to see actual numbers from restaurant owners who said "oh yes out of the 119 customers who were scanned for fever today, we turned away 12 due to high temperature ratings"..ok- lets see if China will actually divulge that info. I also think its useless because at least 10-15% of people w/ the virus don't present w/ a fever symptom. The only solution is really to do what the WH is doing now - the Instant Covid swab tests that tell you if you have it within 15 minutes. We can only hope we have these tests become more available so that businesses can track and prevent an outbreak.

I agree that temperature scans are not really accurate, at all, but was just wondering, with so many people saying "no way" to various things, what would they be willing to do.

Re: What are you WILLING to do?

I think the reality is, no matter how or when we open things there will be a spike. I think that is inevitable. But I think we're all going to just have to get exposed at some point and ride it out because I truly believe this virus is here to stay and will become just another thing we deal with like a seasonal flu, a cold, etc.

That being said, I will continue to social distance FOR NOW, but long term I won't go through my life never being near people, especially family and friends. That is just ridiculous, people need human interaction and contact.

Short term, I will deal with a mask but by summer that needs to end too. I am not suffocating in a mask in the sweltering hot summer sun. I also don't want to only be able to talk to everyone with a mask on, it's weird and impersonal.

I will get the vaccine down the road after it's proven safe and effective BUT that cannot happen by the fall like they are telling us.

Using sanitizer in public and washing hands all the time, of course I have no issue with. I can live with my temp being taken although I think that is a little invasive to some degree.

Ultimately, everything is fine in the short term but long term I don't think anything but hand washing and sanitizer is sustainable.

I am not willing to wear masks forever. For now yes but that has to end too.

Also there is no way elementary kids will keep masks on all day. Not realistic.

You can’t wear masks while eating so how can restaurants open if masks are required.

On the fence about a vaccine.

If taking my temp makes someone feel better sure. Using hand sanitizer in Public places fine with that too.

Re: What are you WILLING to do?

I will wear a mask in the short term when indoors in public places where it is not possible to maintain 6 feet of distance.

I will not have my kids wear masks all day at school. If they are ever allowed to play sports again, no way should masks be mandated for that.

I am all in favor of requiring hand sanitizer to enter places. I am ok with this forever.

Temperature checks....eh, its not that I care so much but I think its useless since the actual problem is asymptomatic people.

NO VACCINE.

ETA: Because I saw someone else say it...I would be ok driving to and from school to avoid the bus issue.

Wear a mask? yes
Hand sanitizer when entering a place? Sure, I guess, but someone that's asymptomatic could wipe a runny nose after going in and spread it everywhere, so that one seems useless to me.
Hand washing? Yes - for me (especially since I think that's WAY better than hand sanitizer)
Temperature check? Sure, I have no issue with it.
Vaccine? Nope - not until it's out for at least a year.

I don't actually plan on changing my life that much after things open. I completely expect a spike to happen and I'm not willing for my son or I to be a statistic. I'll still do things I need to - grocery shop, car inspection, etc, but thankfully I have the opportunity to work from home and I'm actually really loving it. I think it's harder for my son, though.

That's why I always make sure to sanitizer right before I put anything in my mouth or touch my face in a restaurant, when I leave a store, etc

Sanitizing on the way in- eh.... less effective

I get it - none of these things are perfect. But we can't keep everything closed and we can't open back up with everything being the way it was "before." SO, what ARE you willing to do? What will you be willing to deal with to get to that point of opening things up?

At this point- anything.
Give me a fuking Hazmat suit and I'll wear it out to a bar.

My friend in Texas got her nails done yesterday.
She listed the changes...
Appointment only- no walks in- no people sitting around waiting to be called
Stations spaced apart- half capacity of nail techs
Masks worn by customers and technicians
Glass partition with a slot that you put your hands in to have your nails done
They make you sanitize your hands before they start
Sanitize stations between customers.
She was just thrilled to get them done and didn't mind any of it

What's the magic day that it will be ok to roll some of this back?

I know 2 people who will not wear makes and don’t. One uses his asthma condition, the other just is going against it and has put up all the harm it causes.
Honestly I don’t get how long these people expect to wear masks. Get in and get out of places and while I hate the mask, I know I have to wear it if I want to go out.

I have no reason to go out much. I can stay home aside from going out for groceries. I don't need to do anything. My kids are ok staying home. We can make do. For my family, this is not dire and we're going to be sensible and allow the resources to be absorbed by people who need them. We will see what happens with school. I imagine at some point over the summer we will start seeing friends and family, but we will wear masks and practice social distancing.

I’m hoping not longer than a year or so? I would consider that a short time in the grand scheme of life and I hope in 5-10 years we can look back and say “remember that craziness with the coronavirus when we had to wear masks and shit?” And how can you say we’ve been “doing this for months and noth8ng has changed” when obviously it has. We are in much better shape with the deaths and hospitalizations than we were a month ago.
