What are your financial goals for the New Year?
Survive!
Ugh... My car is shot and I don't want a car payment but I may have to, I am going to NYC in Feb (to see family), I still owe Mr. IRS. Frankly I just want to survive.
That's my goal. Making it to Xmas next year

What are your financial goals for the New Year?
Im hoping to save more. We are almost done with paying our credit card debt and will be able to save more. Goal is to only have mortgage, car payment (which will be done in a year) and regular bill - no credit card debt. Its not easy though as taxes keep going up every year :( Thank goodness I dont have student debt loans -- I feel terrible for younger couples trying to save up for a home. And then if you get to that point where youre lucky enough to buy, you have a lot of redoing and updating that needs to get done.

Re: What are your financial goals for the New Year?
Similar to many of the other posters.
Stop eating out so much - less takeout, bring lunch to work, cook. (I could stand to lose a few lbs too).
Make a dent in my credit card debt. It's outrageous.
Save so I can take some unpaid maternity leave, god willing I get pregnant.
Stop spending in general. I buy way too much. I need to make more thoughtful decisions and less impulse purchases.

Exactly. Especially once you have kids. I don't know how people are able to really save.

We have a very detailed budget - just need to stick to it!
I also want to look at our stock portfolio holdings and reallocate.
For anyone saying they want to cut spending- I highly recommend doing a detailed budget- include sinking funds for home and car maintenance, insurance, gifts, etc. go over your past year bank statements and make a budget that you can live with.

I have a goal number in mind I'd like to reach for our savings account, but I think DH also needs to concentrate on paying down his student loan debt. It's nuts.
In 2014 we put away a set amount for savings each month (a minimum amount) but then we also did a 52-week challenge I found on pinterest as additional savings. Here's a visual: IMAGE
Basically, you save the dollar amount of whatever week it is in the calendar year. At the end of the year, you have an extra 1378 dollars. DH and I both did it this year and we are using this "extra" money to 1) make an extra mortgage payment 2) paid for our annual trip to Montauk over Columbus day 3) have $1000 left over to use for our Christmas shopping. (We'll use cc's to pay for gifts, but then use the $ to pay them off so we still get rewards/points, etc).
I think we'll do that again! Keep the ideas coming!!
Ooh, I love this. Thanks for sharing.
You're welcome! Another option is to do this backward (so, the $52 deposit first) and pay yourself more up front. If you have it in an interest bearing account, you'll make more money this way! I know there isn't a whole lot out there as far as high yield accounts go, but I have a capital one 360 account that gives me .75%. Not that awful. GL!
