Not that I am wishing this by any means but, DH and I have discussed as it is a possibility.

I will continue to stay home/work/teach/be miserable... If my office restrictions lessen - I may go in occasionally when DH is around (as I get really frustrated when he is around and he gets a break lol)

My manager has a school aged kid as well so they are very flexible... The rest of my group has preschool aged and younger so most of them are planning (or have been) using the same daycare they used previously.

Honestly, I will jump out my first floor window and run down the block screaming. And since I can't run nor jump, this is monumental.

I cannot even imagine how a ftwm could manage. My heart goes out to them.

First, I will cry!

Second, I will probably continue to work from home. I've been really lucky that I can work from home and my bosses are really understanding.

But, this is not good for my daughter. She's been home for 3 months and now will be home all summer. It will be horrible if this continues past summer!

I definitely will cry too and it's not good for my sons either. Or me.

I will have to find a daycare that is accepting school age kids. My DH and I won't be able to work remotely by September. I'm hoping my son's current daycare would allow him to return next year if kindergarten is going to be remote. He won't be able to do his schoolwork there so we will have to do it with him after 5:30 when we get home. He wouldn't be home to do any kind of zoom class meetings during the day.

All of this except I will be utilizing the school district provided child care, and I am able to commit 1 hour a day to school work MAX.

Because unlike my child's teacher this year, I don't have the option of just sending my clients youtube links about how to do the job they are paying me for. I have to actually do the work, on site.

My DH has to go to work, so if I can work remotely it’ll be the same as the past 3 months. If I can’t stay remote I’m looking into hiring a sitter.

Get therapy for myself and my daughter.
She isn't doing well.
Kids need social interaction.
I struggle with depression being locked at home too.

Its really difficult for the kids not to have the structure and interaction that they are used to.

I have a flexible job and we are fortunate to have a great nanny who can help - the logistics of it are easy for me compared to many, the social aspect is really really hard on my kids. I pray schools re-open.

I’m not ready to think about this yet. I’m barely surviving and we have a great babysitter now who will go back to college in the fall and not be available.

I can’t do the teaching and working from home thing. I have no plan. Ugh.

And we all know they will open. They will not have camps open and daycares and be way past phase 4 not to open.

I think people are just genuinely very scared of what September may look like. The consensus is that distant learning is complete garbage. Children in Special Ed have suffered the most, and parents are very concerned how much more their child will suffer if distance learning continues.
Parents who work are worried who will watch their kids if school is only part time, or not at all. There is concern on the emotional and social ramifications of being in school with social distancing, no specials, no recess, masks, no assemblies.
It is just a scary situation all around, and I think the most important question to be answered for many.

There are groups on Facebook you can follow that show what other states are doing. I honestly had to get off one of the pages as it was non stop.

I am not concerned with what other states are doing, and everything is just speculation anyway. I was just offering a perspective as to why people constantly talk about it.

We haven’t discussed this exactly in one thread. It has been brought up here and there but I was curious.

I spoke to the kids principal today and although she said they are exploring options, I left the conversation feeling that reopening is a less likely option.

I also think this is a topic we all think sucks - regardless as to how we feel about opening.

I am in Queens and NYCDOE sent a remote learning survey for fall. One of the first questions was which option would we prefer:

1. Alternate weeks. One week in person. One week remote.
2. Kids go in one day per week. Rest of week is remote.
3. Entirely remote.

I was shocked those were the only 3 options. No where to write in comments. You had to rank them 1,2,3. There were a bunch of other questions including how would you send your child to school (bus, drive, walk, public transportation). Also asked if you would need childcare while school was remote.

Is this even legal? Isn't one of the functions of government to provide education? We pay taxes for this very reason. I hope to God private schools will be open because that is where I would send my kids. With $20G+ in taxes, that seems wildly unfair and absurd to me. Alternatively, my sister lives out of state where schools are already slated to reopen. She's offered to take them in. But that would be a last resort.

Do you get the sense that the teachers don't really want to reopen? I think they are enjoying this time off. In my district, they got a RAISE and did so very and disappointingly little. I would give them a D-. They were completely awful. Chat Icon

I do not think teachers are enjoying the time off. At least for me it has been time off because I have been providing full time remote special education services to my students. Now the teachers in the school district that I live in, that's another story. For the taxes I pay, I do not feel that an adequate service was provided.

What is making teachers not want to go back, is that teachers want to make sure that regulations are in effect to keep them safe. For example, if child comes in with a fever, what do we do? In the school I work at in Queens, most of the time, the child stays in school because the parent cannot pick them up. Most teachers I know want to be back in the building in September.

Shiiiiiit......really??? That does not sound good.

After I finish crying, I will go back to working remotely full time if I am permitted to do so. Otherwise, I will have to find babysitters. And that's one gigantic expense I was not anticipating!!
