What are your plans post natal?
In light of my recent discovery at work we are pretty sure I will stay home for at least 6 months after the baby is born. Then we will re-evaluate our situation and determine if we are ready for me to go back to work full time.
Will you be a SAHM? WAHM? Go back to work full time and hire a baby sitter, daycare, work part time?

Re: What are your plans post natal?
At first I will go back PT and mom will watch the baby. Then after maybe 6 months I will find a FT position and possible split the time between my mom and daycare.

This is my exact situation. I will have 8 months off with unemployment and severance and decide what to do then.

Re: What are your plans post natal?
I will stay home for 8 weeks and go back to work, however I am allowed to work at home and can gradually come back into the office, so I'm hoping to do like 2 days at home/3 days in the office for a couple of months.

Re: What are your plans post natal?
I will be a SAHM for at least the first 4 months but then I want to look into possibly doing day care from my home. I would only watch no more than 2 children in addition to my own this way I can be home with my own child but also bring in some money too.
This is my BEST option since right now I am a teacher but I live in Stony Brook and work in Flushing so that commute is just not a possibility when the baby comes. I have 12 hrs. days!!! It's crazy!!
So doing day care in my home is the best of both worlds, I am with my child but I'm still doing what I enjoy which is being with children and of course............making money too!!! (oh yeah.....and being my own boss for a change!! You can't beat that!!!)

Re: What are your plans post natal?
I have a choice whether or not to go back to work. I am 99.9% leaning toward working. I'm worried that I will take some time off and then need to find a job later on. I would rather just stay where I am (I'm comfortable) . Also right now we have no financial worries. If I quit working, $ will be tight and I don't really want to live like that. such a hard decision for us women. I sometimes feel like I am being selfish for choosing to keep working even though I can stay home

I really think it’s great women have the option to even think about it being a choice. Personally there is no choice and the idea of having a choice is funny. But isn’t great how far we’ve come?
We’re not rich. We’re not close to rich. We don’t even have a savings account for more than overdraft. We don’t own our home, we don’t own both cars, we don’t have some rich family, we don’t have families who can support us, we don’t have friends who are willing to pitch in, we probably won’t even have a baby shower, we don’t have ‘roots’ here and we don’t have something to ‘lean on’ money-wise. We are transplanted New Yorkers, me from Texas him from China. We work hard but have bills that come with travel, relocation and trying to survive in New York.
We need the money. I have to go back to work, period. I make a decent living and it gets us by. Without it, I’d have to move out of New York and be in Poverty for another 10 years to bounce back. Thanks but no thanks.
I’ll be working thank you.

Re: What are your plans post natal?
I am due in Sept. and I am planning on working through the end of May and then taking the summer off. I will be staying home for about 2 years. I am currently getting my masters in education so I will be home for a year taking classes then start my student teaching. My mom will watch the baby when I need to do my full time student teaching. I am also a licensed real estate appraiser and I am hoping to start my own business. Luckily we havent bought a house yet so we can afford for me to stay home.

Re: What are your plans post natal?
I'm jealous of all of you who can afford to be SAHMs!. I will be returning to work P/T from home after 1 month, then will be physically back at the office F/T after 2 more months.
With our ridiculously high mortgage and taxes, there's just no way we could pay the bills without my salary. My only hope is that since I'm a copywriter, someday I'll be able to work at least P/T from home. For now DC will be going to a family day care near our home.

Just because some of us are choosing the route of staying home does not mean we are rich, we have "rich families", giving friends, or large savings.
DH and I have family here who could offer nothing more but moral support. They could not provide any financial assistance and nor would we expect them to. The decision to start a family was ours, solely ours, and should not become a burden on anyone else.
For DH and I it's a matter of budgeting our money. And to be completely honest, I could send to daycare 12 weeks after he is born and go back to work full time. But the amount of my salary that would be redirected to cover the cost of daycare just doesn't make it worth me going back to work at first.
Sorry - I just think your outlook on women staying at home to tend to their children is slightly misconstrued.

Re: What are your plans post natal?
I get 18 weeks paid leave. Then I plan on returning to work full-time, but I have the option of working part-time or full-time (but from home some days) if I want. I'm going to see how it goes and decide a few weeks before I'm supposed to go back.
I make considerably more than my DH, so it's really not an option for me.

Re: What are your plans post natal?
Our plan is for me to be s SAHM for the first couple of years or until the money we saved up for when we had a baby runs out. Which ever comes first. Right now we soley live off of DH's salary and save mine, but soon we will have the added expense of the baby and paying for health insurance on our own. Scary. Just keeping my fingers crossed that things work out.

Re: What are your plans post natal?
I get 12 weeks maternity leave. Some paid at 100%, some paid at less and some not paid. Once that is up, I will go back to work full time. We are currently debating day care and a nanny. Not sure which we'll choose as of now.

Re: What are your plans post natal?
I am going to try to take the full 12 weeks allowed by FMLA, (depends on finances) then I need to go back to work full time.
DH switched to the overnight shift so that we didn't have to put the baby in daycare. I am just happy that he has a job that has that option.

Re: What are your plans post natal?
I wish I could be a SAHM, but it's just not possible right now.
I have a flexible job, in a few months when I am further along, we will discuss working from home for awhile and going in one or two day a week. I have to be home until at least 3 months, we are getting an aupair, but you can't leave them alone FT with the baby until 3 months of age.
