They'd probably get flack for not going- it's a no-win IMO.
ITA. Plus, if ANYONE wanted to pray and pay respect there, I would welcome it. God knows, we need all the prayers we can get today be it from McCain or Obama.

They'd get flack for this either way.
I would never tell anyone - politician or otherwise - how they should spend today. If they want to be there, so be it. Their motivations don't concern me so long as they are respectful. I, personally, in no way feel they are taking away from or trivializing my loss. (Not everyone has to agree with this sentiment, but this is how I, personally, feel.)
I won't lie - It's been 7 years and I still can't bear going to Ground Zero. If they want to pray there or lay a wreath or just take a look, go ahead. I think it's nice they are going together and suspending all negative ads for the day. If they were holding a press conference there, I'd have a problem... but they scheduled a visit together, not a whole day there shaking hands and kissing babies. It doesn't bother me and their motivations and intentions (good or otherwise) also won't concern me today.
It's a hard enough day for me. I won't spend it worrying about people with less than perfect motivations...

If they quietly pay respects fine, if they use it as a photo op and a place to make a speech, disgusted.
I agree - As presidential candidates, I think it's 'nice' for lack of a better word if they show up to pay respect to the country, the people of New York and the friends/families of those who lost and gave their lives -
The friends and families of those lost that day were affected in ways that others can't comprehend, but this didn't JUST happen to them, it didn't JUST happen to New York - It happend to the whole country .........
I think their presence is appropriate, but anything else would be tacky and obnoxious. - No speeches, no photo ops, nothing like that -

I would have more respect for them if one went to the Pentagon
Yes! Obama should visit the Pentagon! Maybe he'd like to bring along his friends Bill Ayers and Bernadine Dohrn, so long as they promise not to BOMB IT AGAIN!
the sad thing is that most people probally dont know the connection between Obama and Ayers because the medias to worried about Palin's pregnant daughter

I don't know why people think this is a political stunt. It makes no sense.
The President has been here for the anniversary in the past. Wouldn't it also make sense for the FUTURE presidents to be here as well?

ITA with this.
And I would assume the reason they go to Ground Zero instead of the Pentagon or Pennsylvania is because the majority of people lost on 9/11 were lost there.
I would never want to be in politics - you just CAN'T ever win with people.

Agreed and i'll take it one step further which I am sure nobody here thought about.
If McCain or Obama went to a swing state Pennsylvania (at the plane crash site) or to the Pentagon (right next to Virginia another swing state)... different story.
They are both going to NY which is CLEARLY going to Obama. Definitely NOT a political stunt.
It's amazing how people are all set to jump to conclusions so quickly. Like a PP said, they can't win in this situation.

I'm not an Obama supporter, but I think it's disgraceful that anyone would purport to know what any other American feels or felt in relation to 9-11, politician or otherwise.

Obama's association with certain people scare the c**p out of me - it is amazing how certain friendships have not gotten press - I am much more worried about that than Palin's pregnant daughter - last time I checked, she won't be dealing with the security of this country.

Im just stating that Obama has alot of nerve being there when he is associated with a racist Anti-American spiritual advisor, and a known terrrorist.

Re: What are your thoughts about Obama and McCain being at ground zero tomorrow?
I don't care.
In the grand scheme of things wether or not McCain and Obama are at ground zero is a pimple on the azz of the political scene and as far as I'm concerned a non-issue.
If these two men wanted to pay their respects and be there or they knew it was something they *had* to do b/c it would look bad if they didn't show, so be it.
This is not an earth shattering issue for me.

I think we ALL have a lot of nerve judging anyone's motivations.
Ayers was protesting the VIETNAM war...in the 60's and 70's and He has since become a REKNOWNED professor in Chicago, and is involved in MANY community NON RADICAL groups, where he met Obama.
they also live in the same neighborhood.
It saddens me that SOME of the McCain/Palin fans on this site cannot seem to speak as "plainly" as the Senator himself seems to be able to.
with truth. and not "terrorist" fear propaganda.
being AWARE of Ayers past as well as his PRESENT, it doesn't bother me that Obama knows him...they are friggin NEIGHBORS.
he's already removed himself from Rev. Wright...and he has explained himself satisfactorily for me.
I am so over this fear and hate mongering.
you are a smart guy. you can do better than this.

And its shameful that he is a professor imo. the guy set bombs off on American soil. He's lucky to be alive. And it has more to do w/ Baracks track record w/ these types of individuals. How many more people does this guy need to denounce before we wake up to what kind of beliefs he stands for. For crying out loud he brought his own kids up listening to Rev. Wright speak. That tells me something about his character.

this was awesome!
I will say that I don't like the whole rev. wright thing, but I do believe him when he said he never heard a hateful sermon from him. I don't think he is teaching his kids to be racist.
I don't think Obama hates America. I don't think he is plotting it's downfall.
I also don't agree with Ayers PAST. but people change, grow and learn from their mistakes.
as long as he's not teaching bomb making 101, and has insteand channeled his ideas into education, I am fine with that.

He didn't have to be front and center to hear Rev Wright speak of hatred towards Whites and America. Although i think hes full of it. He is a close friend of Baracks. A close friend that idolizes Louis Farakhan.
Doh! meant to quote Ophelia not you sorry.

Obama is an AMERICAN - he was an American on 9/11/01 and he's an American now - he doesn't have any 'nerve' being there, he deserves to be there the same way any other American does -
