What are your thoughts on the company with the no gossip policy
I heard them talking on the radio about how this company has a no gossip policy and if you gossip you can get fired. Thoughts

I'm guessing that gossip was becoming a huge issue and they are trying to control it.
At my first job out of college someone was fired for gossip - she made a nasty comment about another employee, our SVP happened to be walking by and overheard and within the hour HR was at her cube with boxes escorting her to the parking lot. I always remembered that and tried not to get caught up in the gossip.

Whats their definition of gossip? eta...how can you quantify gossiping? I don't see how it could work..

Exactly.. if a coworker looks tired, can you say "Boy, Tom really looks tired today. I wonder what's going on?" It could be gossip, it could just be an obvious observation. Looks like the potential for a lawsuit is in there....

I'd be interested to see what is considered gossip vs. small talk.
I'm also curious to know why exactly that woman at CathyB's job was fired. Was the comment really that bad, or was it because an SVP noticed? Would she have been fired if it was someone else that heard the comment? Not to put you on the spot, just trying to figure it all out.
I can see the no gossip policy creating as many problems as it solves.

I'm pretty sure they were trying to get rid of her anyway, so it was an excuse. I didn't hear the comment, but the rumor was that she was talking about how stupid her manager was. So I guess it was insubordination?

I heard on the radio that he came from a job where gossiping caused a lot of problems so he didn't want to create the same environment with his company.
