What's your company's maternity policy?

I get 6 weeks state disability, then I get to take my vacation (if I choose too).
I can stay out as long as I want to-even a year or two, and I will always have a job, but they can't guarantee it will be doing the same thing. ANd of course, I will not be getting paid. BUt it is reassuring knowing that if I was WAS able to afford it, I would still have a job.

WOW that's wondeful. we only get FMLA and if you've been at the company more than 10 years you get 75% of your salary for 9 weeks of the 12.

Re: What's your company's maternity policy?

Wow, these are some great policies!

I get 6 or 8 weeks pay, depending on how I deliver with up to 6 mos total leave. If I go beyond the 12 weeks FMLA, I have to take 2 weeks of my vacation time so that's another 2 weeks of pay.

Re: What's your company's maternity policy?

As a teacher, I will get paid for 6 weeks (8 weeks if I have a c-section). I am then allowed to take the 12 week FMLA (Unpaid, but keeping health insurance). If I want to take off the rest of the school year I can, without pay or insurance. I am also permitted to take the following school year off (again unpaid and no insurance)...but a job would be held for me.

Same with me!

We get 8 weeks at full pay, then 4 weeks unpaid. I'm taking my 3 weeks vacation after the 8 weeks at full pay and 1 week unpaid.

This is about the only good thing about working for the company I work for. I'm suprised they are this generous.

My old firm only gave NYS Disability. I had a month of sick and vacation time that I used before. No FMLA even though I had been there 3 years because there were only 6 employees.

I got fired tho during my sick and vacation time, so I now collect unemployment

I work for a very small company (3 people including myself) so my boss is cutting me a check and I am cashing out my 2 weeks vacation. I plan to go back after the new year and I'll get a raise also.

Just curious, is this the policy for all teachers, or does it vary by district?

It recently changed...for the better I guess...6 weeks STD (1 week @100%, 4 weeks @80% and 1 week @50%), then I will utilize my 3 weeks vacation and the rest of FMLA unpaid...well worth it thoughChat Icon

ETA: Remember that FMLA kicks in from the first week of STD...a lot of people don't realize that.

My company gives 6-8 weeks STD and pay based upon years of service. Then you can use vacation days and FMLA time. I will be on LTD so I have to see how that works. I wont have FMLA but already know I am ok if they fire me so I can take unemployment and stay home for 6 months.

FMLA is a state mandiated law that if you've been FT or worked 1200 hours for one year prior you are entitled to 12 weeks off to take care of family business.

FMLA is a federal law. Prior to your leave, you must have worked at the company for at least 1 year and have worked at least 1250 hours in the last year in order to be eligible. Companies with fewer than 50 employees are not subject to FMLA.

As long as you work in a district with at least 50 employees, the district is subject to FMLA. You must work there for at least 1 year and 1250 hours to be eligible for FMLA. If you're eligible, you are entitled to 12 weeks of unpaid leave.

Any paid time off, including STD, should be included in your 12 weeks of FMLA leave (STD and FMLA run concurrently). Your district will likely require you to use any sick/vacation time towards your leave. Your collective bargaining agreement should state whether you're entitled to additional leave beyond the 12 weeks.

Re: What's your company's maternity policy?

My company has great benefits. I got 8 weeks disability (not through the state)...2 weeks prior to birth and 6 weeks after. The first 4 weeks are 100% pay, the next 4 were at 80%. Then , after those 8 weeks were up, my jobs pays you an additional 4 weeks at 100% (this was a change in policy implemented in 2007)

I then took off 2 weeks unpaid so I ahd 14 weeks off in total....8 at 100% pay, 4 at 80% and 2 weeks unpaid Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon
