What are your views on wine drinking?

My girlfriends and cousins who have had happy healthy babies tell me it is OK to have a glass or 2 of wine a week. What have your doctors said about it? I won't see mine until Tuesday for my first visit.

Most doctors will tell you not to drink at all. Personally I think that a glass here and there is okay, but I wouldn't do it weekly. The one thing that I would avoid is drinking at all during the first trimester. There are too many things developing with the baby at that point.

I've had 2 glasses of wine my entire pregnancy and I'm really dying for more!

i agree with the PP - definitely none during the first trimester. i know it's ok to have a glass here and there (my mom had wine all the time when she was pregnant with me) but i probably won't have any. just not worth it for me.

I think it is a personal decision.....I personally have not had a drop of alcohol since my BFP. But I do agree with the PP, I would refrain from any in the first trimester and I would not drink every week.

Thanks girls! I agree...not worth it! Maybe I'll do like a wine tasting...give it a smell and swish it around my mouth and spit it out! HA! I'm sure it won't help the heartburn either!

i had a glass here and there (usually champagne or a wine spritzer) in the second. once i hit the third tri - forget it, wine DESTROYED me since I had HORRIBLE heartburn

I got the go-ahead to have one glass of wine per week once I hit 36 weeks. Just had my first glass a few days ago and it was goooooood!!! But MAN, I felt it after a couple of sips!

I wouldn't do a whole glass, or once a week but I have had a few sips here and there of beer, wine and champagne. I think it is perfectly fine.

I personally wouldn't have any type of alcohol while pregnant, but that's just me!! I'm sure one glass of wine occasionally is OK.

you have to do what you feel comfy with. most of our moms drank and smoke and we are all " fine" if u r craving it drink it, just dont drink 5 bottles

i dont drink any alcohol either... but i have heard a glass of wine here and there is ok -- but personally i wouldnt risk it

I don't think I ever even asked my OBs about it (I might have, just don't remember). I never had any in the first tri, maybe 1 glass a month in the 2nd tri, and one glass every week to every two weeks in the third tri. Both kiddies are fine But it's all about your personal comfort level

personally - none for me until after the baby is born- I do have a cousin that was schedule for her c the day after my wedding and she kicked back a few and enjoyed the reception I would maybe consider that

With my first pregnancy I waited until 20 weeks to have my first glass. And had a glass here and there, usually one a week after 20 weeks.

This pregnancy I will do the same. I have a different doctor this time, but my first doctor told me a glass a wine a week after 20 weeks is okay. He was very laid back on most everything.

My kid is completely fine. Really a personal decision. I have friends/family who do drink wine during pregnancy and I have those who don't drink a sip. I don't judge.

My doc said I could have a glass here and there but to wait until I was further along, def not in the first trimester.

I never asked. I know that my Dr would say don't do it at all because there is no real proof whether it's harmful or not.
Having said that it's a personal choice.
Do I think one glass of wine here and there will do any harm- no. I know lots of people who drank a glass of wine a week towards the end and had healthy babies.

I've had a few wine sprtizers here and there- like 1/4 glass of wine topped off with seltzer. I was fine with that.

But to me just having a little taste of booze does me no good- and is just more of a tease...so I'm just waiting it out until I can go buck wild again!

Seriously, I am almost 20 weeks and I'd say I've had three glasses of wine on three different occasions so far. I enjoyed it and haven't looked back! I do plan having a couple more at some point during the second half.

While pregnant with my first, my OB said, "If you're going to stress it, it's not worth it, but one glass of wine is not going to harm anything." I've switched OBs just before getting pregnant this last time, and my doctor didn't say anything about it one way or the other...and I didn't ask.

ETA...Personally, though, I would never feel comfortable to have one glass a week...and I can certainly knock them back non-pregnant.

I'm not a wine drinker. I think 1 sip won't hurt. I've sipped here and there if I wanted to try it. I probably wouldn't drink a glass. I don't think 1 glass will hurt if you do decide to have it. I wouldn't do it every week.

My doctor okayed it after the first trimester. Not in excess, more in lines with every once in a while.

I've had wine spritzers at Easter, on my anniversary and other special occasions. I avoid beer because watered down it tastes horrible and I always want more than one.

my doctor told me than a glass or two here and there is perfectly fine after the 1st trimester

I hate wine but I had approx 6 beers throughout my pregnancy with DS (in the 2nd and 3rd trimester)

I personally would not be comfortable with one or two a week

I didn't speak to my doctor about it until my third trimester (first pregnancy) and he told me to go ahead and have a glass.

He said what most people say - that his mother smoked and drank while she was pregnant with him but he did make it clear that ONE glass once in a while was okay, not 2 or 3.

I have had 2 or 3 glasses of wine this entire pregnancy... usually just a sip and not a full glass.
