What beach can I take my dog to where he can swim in the water?

What beach can I take my dog to where he can swim in the water?
Tomorrow is my last day before I go back to work and I promised I would take him to one this summer. Anyone know of a beach on the island that will let dogs near/in the water?

gardiners park in bay shore.. there are trails that lead to the beach (the bay). there are always dogs playing there

just be careful because you really arent supposed to let dogs off leash there and i know people have gotten summonses

Coindre hall in Huntington has a small beach area that unofficially is for the dogs.

another place in huntington - is take vineyard rd all the way to the end - the road ends at a beach - there are stairs to the water- however there is no beach at high tide - then once on the beach you can walk anywhere on the beach with the dog - below high tide water mark is public land -

we bring our dog there all the time & i've never had an issue with letting him off the leash... 90% of people who are there with their dogs have them off the leash... i've never seen an issue
just be smart about it.. we keep him on the leash if the trails are crowded, but if they arent, he is off the leash on the trails and down by the water
