What can I do to help make my friend's holidays special?

I know it is early, but one of my oldest and best friends lives in Italy with her family since her husband is in the military. Her DH is being deployed on November 29th

I got an email from her today about how upset she is about having to wake up Christmas morning with just her and the kids, no Thomas, no family It made me cry. I want to do something special, but I don't know what I can do?

DS and I are going to visit in March, but I'd like to do something now.

what about reaching out to her DH and asking him to get his hands on a video camera & set up christmas behind him (maybe have someone put up a tree or something - or wait until November before he goes - and do it in a store) and have him just 'act' as if he's there....

do something like, 'good morning honey, kids, i hope you all love your presents....go ahead - make mommy open one now, etc'

things like that... then he can leave it for her and she can open and watch on Christmas with the kids...

i know it sounds complicated - but it really wouldn't be...
