What can I expect when Jack gets his first round of shots

I like to be prepared beforehand. How was your DC when they got their first round of shots? He gets them next week.

My ds actually always handles his shots GREAT!! He does a little cry when they give it to him but then stops right when their done. I think it's harder on the parents Chat Icon

Re: What can I expect when Jack gets his first round of shots

My kids didn't really feel it. Rather than holding the baby down, my pediatrician has us hold the baby as we would normally, which soothes the baby and distracts them. I would ask your pediatrician if you can hold your baby while they administer the shots.

Good luck!

His 1st round of shots were uneventful...he cried a little, came home slept and had no reactions. We gave him tylenol as soon as we got home and then 4 hours later and that was it.

The hardest part was watching him in shock and then burst out crying after he got the shots.....I don't blame him I feel the same way about shots.

Alex screamed bloody murder - for a few minutes - and I was alone. Also got blood all over my blouse because the band aid wasn't in the right place.

But she was fine afterwards.

Re: What can I expect when Jack gets his first round of shots

I wasn't prepared to have to hold her while she got the shots, but that's probably a lot more comforting for the baby, so I think it's a good idea.
I tried to smile at her a whole lot after the shots - she tends to smile back when I do that, and I think it helped to make her less upset. She didn't cry for all that long in the office.
Once we got home, she was really tired and slightly cranky - not much. She got a slight fever and a big red bump on her arm where she got the shot. She was more normal the next day and 2 days after, back to her old self.
It's not that bad! Chat Icon

Our DD slept alot, but no reactions, fever or anything like that - her 4 months shots, she has a fever and crankiness like there was no tomorrow, you should be safe this round. Chat Icon

Our Ped made me hold DS like a hug, then she stuck him. Be prepared for the look of shock and hurt on DS faceChat Icon

That day he was fine, but was rubbing at the shot site. The next day he was very sleepy.

This is all good to know, as my DD also has her first round of shots next week. I definitely have a feeling it's going to 'hurt' me more than her. Chat Icon

Re: What can I expect when Jack gets his first round of shots

It depends too on what shots they do and when. My ped office breaks them up a bit more, which I LOVE....

Noahs "first shots" were only an oral dose of rotovirus and one shot which had the hep B and HIB shot combined.

Thats it and they cause no side effects...So he was fine.

It all depends on what vaccines he is getting.

its worse on the mommy ...hang in there Chat Icon

Re: What can I expect when Jack gets his first round of shots

Aiden had his first round today and just like his older sister he cried for a few minutes. As mentioned, the hardest part is having to hold them down.

We always bring tylenol with us so as soon as we are done with shots and dressing him we can give him some so he can sleep peacefully
