What did you look for when choosing a nursery school program for your DC?

I am looking to do a mommy and me 2 year old program with my DS in September. I have visited 3 schools that all have good reputations but for some reason none seems to be "the one."

My goal was to register him in a school that he'd stay in up until it was time for Kindergarten. There is something "wrong" with all of them.

What did you look for? What was important to you?

Re: What did you look for when choosing a nursery school program for your DC?

I could not really find a mommy and me program at a school that DD would attend as nursery school. I have done various mommy and me programs at various locations, but in the fall DD will start a new school with a 3 y old nursery program alone.

So I picked a school that was strictly enrichment and educational and did not provide any daycare for any ages. Being that I am not looking for daycare and DD has never been in daycare (SAHM), I like that the other students in the class also are there for just a short period and then parents or caregivers pick them up.

I liked their bathroom policy (aide assists them) and makes sure they wash their hands. I visited the bathroom and saw the setup. I am a germaphobe when it comes to my DD and I felt this was important. They also use hand sanitizer before snack.

I also liked the snack policy. Just goldfish or crackers, etc....I was worried about grapes and choking hazards.

I also looked for a school that DD would not have to be fully potty trained and they would accept her. They also agreed to call me if she needed to be changed (I live closeby) b/c being a SAHM, no one has ever changed my DD and I dont see any reason to start now at almost 3 years old.

I just got a good vibe from the school when I visited. The school is not perfect not exactly what I was hoping for, but I really found the above important criteria for myself.

Indoor and outdoor play area.

Hmmm...what else? Close to home. Pretty much all kids that will also be in DDs school district. This was important to me, so that she will make friends now at age 3 that will possibly last a long time. And hey, I can make some too finally.
