I'm guessing his little belly hurts? I don't know for sure, but it KILLS me each time it happens!
What do you do? His face scrunches up in pain and he cries. It breaks my heart!!!

If he isn't hungry, wet or tired, it may very well be gas pains. I used to try to burp my DDs again if I though they had gas or rub their bellies or lay them down and do bicycle legs to get the gas moving.

Same here. DD definitely had gas pain those first few weeks. We rubbed her tummy, moved her legs, and pat her back.
If you can't get him to calm down after a few minutes, try the colic hold - the one where he's tummy down on your arm -- most babies who have tummy pain seem to be calmed by that hold since it puts pressure on the belly.

Just another note to add. Was the first thing our ped told us when DS was born. If you cannot figure out why baby is upset, do a strip down and check for hair. Your (or anyone's) long hair wrapped tightly around fingers, toes or peepee.
It never happened to DS but my sister's friend's son just recently had a hair wrapped around the base of two fingers and they did not know why he was crying until they noticed his fingers were purple. It was so thin and in a crease that they could not see it and it was so tight they had to find cuticle scissors.
Yes gas happens a lot but don't let it be the only reason for unexplained discomfort.
