What do you do with thank you cards
after you receive them? Keep them somewhere, throw them in the trash, etc? Just curious.

Re: What do you do with thank you cards
Handwritten: kept for about one week, sometimes thrown out as soon as they are read.
Pictures: Depending on who/what: Wedding thank you photos are always kept. Birthday party thank yous are typically kept til the next pic of the child is received.

Re: What do you do with thank you cards
garbage, immediately
i hate getting them.
i always think, "wow, so-and-so sent me a letter! how old-fashioned! can't wait to read it!" and then it's some silly TY card with scrawly handwriting of empty words of thanks.
very disappointing.
if there is a pic and I like you, I may keep it. or not.

Re: What do you do with thank you cards
It depends who it is from - I keep all cards from certain people. Otherwise, I treat it the same as any other card - I hang onto it for a while then toss it.

Re: What do you do with thank you cards
I have a card display holder , a wire initial of our last name. This is where I display invites till the event, birth announcements for a while, and thank you cards for about a month, picture thank yous for longer. I really only weed it off when more come in. I love it, and everyone likes to see the pictures when they come over.

I think this is very rude. I always send thank you's after people get myself, DH or my kids gifts. I think it is the right thing to do. And I am very grateful for our friends and family generosity in gift giving, so it's not "empty words".
If you think their empty words of thanks maybe you're giving gifts to the wrong people.

Same. Except I do not hang all pictures. And I will toss the pictures in a box after they've hung on my fridge for a while.

Re: What do you do with thank you cards
if it came from an event that I make scrapbook pages about, I keep it an add it to the scrapbook. I do have a large basket in my craft room that has various cards, TYs & other stuff that may someday make it into a scrapbook.

Re: What do you do with thank you cards
It depends who it's from and what it says.. if it's a very generic one line "thank you for the thoughtful gift" then no ..... If it's something more personal then I might keep it.. but only for like a week Once I go through my next round of cleaning out papers I don't need, it goes in the trash.

Re: What do you do with thank you cards
Plain notes w/o pictures I read then throw them right out. Photocards, if they're family or close friend's kids I might keep them on the fridge for a bit.

Re: What do you do with thank you cards
if the person is important to me ill keep it for a little while. otherwise i toss it after reading. just because they're hand written doesn't mean their personalized:
"Thank you for your generous gift and for sharing in our special day."
but if its a photo card i tend to keep them longer.

Re: What do you do with thank you cards
I really think it's so funny that it seems the majority of people think it's tacky not to send a handwritten note, but then just throw them away. SO not ecologically sensitive, people

Re: What do you do with thank you cards
While I appreciate them there is no need to keep them around so I usually keep them on the counter for DH to read and then he throws it out.

It's actually a pottery barn kids letter. I think it's meant to hold pictures.
We just have one letter.Image Attachment(s):

Re: What do you do with thank you cards
Garbage.
If it is a pic thank you & I am close to you, you go on the fridge for a bit.
Same with christmas cards, birth announcements and anything else.

Exactly what I was thinking!!
I see a spinoff coming...is it tacky to immediately throw out a handwritten TY card (especially if you would have b*tched and moaned if you didn't get a handwritten TY card)?
