What do you do with the baby if you go out with them past their normal bedtime?

I'm thinking of doing a dinner for DH's 30th birthday, and we're probably going to take DD with us who will be roughly 11-12 weeks by then...She normally is asleep for the night by 8, and I'm thinking that this will run a little later...What do you do at that point...obviously this is my first experience, do I just let her sleep in the stroller or car seat and then just wake her and put her down to bed when we get home???

Yup. Just bring her pj's with you and change her before bedtime.

However, for us... going off schedule would scr*w ds up and putting him down at night would be a nightmare. We came home twice past his bedtime and both times it was not fun and we haven't done it since. Chat Icon He was around 8 or 9 weeks at the time we went out and he's now 8 months old. Thanks! I know it sounds like a stupid question, but I'm actually fearful of screwing up her schedule!!! She tends to like a schedule and I'm so scared she's going to freak!!!Chat Icon

we try to stick to schedule as much as possible, if we go over bed time the rest of the night consists of him screaming before falling asleep and him waking up multiple times during the night. the next day however he is able to go back to his old routine. we get off his schedule about 2-3 times per month, when we go visit inlaws and my parents....

This is what I'm scared of...we had a date night one night, and we gave her a bath probably an hour later than normal and she FREAKED out, but slept, but FREAKED for a good half hour before bed...Chat Icon

At 12 weeks I never even thought of it - he wasn't moving around and getting dirty, and was always in a stretchy onesie. We took him everywhere with us at all times!!!

Now, we let him sleep in his clothes if he falls asleep in the car, or change him if he is still awake, give him a milk sippy, read him a story, and put him down....

I give him a later nap, and bring his PJ's with me.

if it comes down to it...i would take dc out regardless if he/she gets more cranky or not, or is able or unable to sleep soundly through the night, it is just one evening and your dh's 30th b day. Enjoy yourself, and although it may take a little more effort to get throught the night for the next day or two it would probobly be well worth the effort...thats just my take on the whole thing.

I don't stick to a strict schedule just for these reasons. I've had DD out late a couple times and she was fine. I just gave her a later nap. Just put DD to bed when you get home, My DD usually just falls alseep in the car, I move her into the crib.

I was going to suggest this too. If she doesn't mind the noise, she might stay asleep for you if you bring the stroller inside.

Re: What do you do with the baby if you go out with them past their normal bedtime?

We are very strict on our schedule when we are home....I think the reason that DS is flexible is that we took him out early and didnt rush home.

If I was at a friends I would rock him and put him on their bed at his bedtime, if we were at a restaurant I would just hold him or put him to sleep in his car seat.

DS loves his schedule, I mean he goes to get his bedtime book if we are runnign late, but he is flexible if we are out and doing things which to me is important.

I would do that exactly....but put her in her jams before she falls asleep so she can go right from the carseat to the crib without fuss.....
