what do you do with your child when school is closed
for childcare that is....
Im a ftwm and my son will be in kindergarten. There are so many days closed, i dont think Im goingto be able to cover these days by us taking off work because everyone wants those days.

our day care center has a vacation club for these days, but we are going to try not to use it and use my retired parents, or WAH DH. I'm a teacher, so most of the days are covered, but there are a lot of half days, staff development days and my home district takes a lot of snow days  when I can't be home.

There is one girl on our block who is going into 2nd grade that hangs out at a neighbor's house with kids similar aged on those days.

My job offers the flexibility to work from home. So when the kids are off from school or if one of them are sick - I work from home. But there are times when I will take the day off in order to spend the day with them doing something fun.

I'm only PT, so when my kids are off, I am off.
Sounds great, but really, there are so many days off it's hard for me to really get work flowing when I'm not there every so often.
A lady I work with has an older lady who sits for her kids on days like that.

My DH has a very flexible schedule, so he either takes the day off or goes in after I get home.

You have to put in for those days as early as possible if they are in demand from other employees too.
If you don't have family to watch your DC and can't take off, ask SAHMs/parents who have off and offer to pay. Pay other sitters.

Quite a few districts offer vacation day camp within their aftercare program. Childcare centers like Tutor Time also offer vacation care. L.I. Childcare does too (vendor on here) and theirs is $50 a day (just got the brochure).
