What do you say when people ask you "Have you thought of any names"?

I always hate that question, since I don't know what to say. We have decided on a boys name but I'm still undecided if it is a girl. I always feel like you are being judged when you start telling the person names you like. You can see by their facial expressions if they like it or not. Then sometimes you will get no response, and they will start saying things like " What about this for a girl". Or they will say "that's a nice name", but you know they don't mean it. You know when someone likes the name, because they get all excited about it.
Should I start telling people we are undecided or we are still looking? I could care less about what people think of the name we choose, but I just find this so annoying.

I'm actually really surprised at how often this question comes up.

My canned response has been, "We have a few in mind, but nothing that we're totally in love with yet". If they ask what those names are, I follow it up with "Sorry, I'm a bit superstitious and I'm not ready to share them".

We actually want the name of our baby to be a surprise.

When I am asked, I usually say 'yes', knowing that the next question will be "Are you telling?" And I say 'nope'.

I love driving people nuts.

If I like the person I say not yet, if I don't like them I tell them I do and we're not sharing....It's just uncomfortable, we do have the name set, but we don't want to share it until she's born, and especially with someone I really don't like

we are 100% def. on our baby boys name, but I'm scared of telling to many people because I do not what 100 items with the baby's name on them. A couple, ok, but some family members love personalizing EVERYTHING!

Beth you are nice about it. People ask me and I tell them, yes we have some in mind and Im not telling anyone until he is here. When I get the I just say, you can't badmouth a name on the kid when he is here. You would not believe how many times I get, "well I wont say anything" or "how about ***** name" NO thanks. My lips are sealed.

I just say we haven't decided yet...even though we're 90% sure of the name. I HATE people's comments.

This is THE most annoying question. I just tell people we haven't really decided.

It really isn't any of their business anyway. Who wants to hear their opinion? I had one lady at work (whom I can't stand by the way) give me HER suggestions and just to be annoying I would say "EWWW" to every name..lolllll

I still laugh about it..hahaha. She so deserved it..she is just so rude and nosey. The look on her face was hysterical!

I hate when people start suggesting names to me. Usually they are so bad, or so trendy. I like some old names, so I think alot of people are not into that.

Are boy name is not that popular anymore, but Dh and I both love it. I'm not changing it now. You know how hard it was to compromise on a boy's name with DH.

I just say No, cause it's the truth. What I'd really like to say is "none of your business". When we do actually get around to thinking about names, i'm sure I'll still say no. People are so freakin nosy.

I say we are still debating on a few, which is true. But then I say we're not sharing - we want it to be a surprise since we already found out the sex. One of DH's aunts is so relentless in asking this question I want to knock her out. I think she thinks she is being cute...she's not.

With my 1st everyone knew the names

Now with my second we are keeping them a secret. We have a boys but we are still deciding for a girl.

My answer will be "we dont know" and if they ask if I am lying I will say "yes--but still not telling"

I had no idea asking this question was such an issue for people! Anytime I've asked pg women, they've always told me and I've always gushed about how pretty/what a great name it is- even if it's not one of my favorites.

On the flip side, I've never had anyone say anything negative about my name choices for either one of my pregnancies.....

I actually just tell them the names we picked because quite honestly, I don't really care at all what people think of the names we chose. Our baby, our choice. When they offer a suggestion or say "how about this name" I just shrug and say "That name is ok, you should use it when you have kids". It usually shuts them up because most people realize at that point you really don't care about their opinion on the matter.

For now we are telling people that we are not even discussing it with each other until our Level II (which is partially true). After then I will preobably tell them that we have some that we like but I want to see the baby first before deciding on one.

I say yes, and then that we have decided not to share them with people.
I am actually enjoying that the names are going to be a surprise for everyone!

We won't tell. We have decided but won't tell.

Sometimes I say, still thinking. Other times, if it's someone close to me, I tell them "it's top secret".

A few people in particular have been been annoying me, trying to get it out of me. I find that rude. Why do you want to know so badly, I just don't get it?

I say yes, and then tell them... When someone tells me they dont like it, I say thanks, I'm sure DH appreciates that you hate his name, it shuts them up REAL quick haha

When we are asked we say yes we have names picked out and when they ask what they are we tell them that we will let them know in about 6 months when the baby is born.

I said "We are not discussing it with anyone" It was much easier to avoid the "Oh...that name reminds me of the **** in high school or I dated a jerk with that name" type comments.

I simply say we have names but aren't telling anyone because we don't want any unsolicited opinions. This seems to work fine.
