We have a couple as well as some swords. I honestly don't see the big deal. DS knows not to hurt/hit/scratch people, so I don't see the harm in him playing make believe. He mostly likes to pretend he's a knight.

i think its naivee if u dont explain and shelter ur kids from things that make them curious especially if u have a gun in the house,
dh has a gun for work and he explained to my neices and nephews about how dangerous his gun is (my sister was ok with this and actually happy dh had a talk with them)

I personally don't buy my boys guns but they make guns out of legos, a piece of paper, their fork when they eat, pretty much anything they can get their hands on. They know that real guns are dangerous and can hurt people.
I don't judge a parent who buys their kids toy guns, I just personally don't like it. I also refuse to buy guns for other people's children.

Nope. Never! I was a pre-k teacher and yes, I have seen kids taking simple things, like Legos or the "arches" of wooden blocks and make the gun noises. All I'd do is walk up to them, asking them, "What r u doing?" they'd totally change the subject..the knew no guns in my class!
If DS is ever given one as a gift, it will be returned!
