What do you think about toddler boys playing with dolls?
DS has been doing role playing lately. I think he would love a baby doll. I especially think this is great since he will be a big brother in 3 months. DH is so against me buying DS a baby doll! I think DS would love changing the baby's diaper, feeding the baby a bottle, give the baby a bath, etc.
DH seems so against "girly" toys/activities for DS. Doesn't understand why I would want to cook with DS. Thinks play kitchens are for girls. DH didn't want me to buy DS a toy stroller and this is one of DS's all time favorite toys.
Do your toddler sons play with dolls? Would you buy your son a baby doll?

I have let my son play with a baby doll, even in a store! DH was horrified, but then I explained that it teaches him to be a good dad one day. (Another mom passing by smiled and nodded as I said it).

Re: What do you think about toddler boys playing with dolls?
My DS used to play with DD's dolls and DH was cool with it. I don't think he would have had a problem with me buying him a doll to play with though. He's pretty laid back about that stuff.

Yes i would. I at the dads that cant handle the omg, my son wants a doll bit. Give me a break. A doll is NOT going to make your boy gay. So, then if i buy my daughter a tonka, she will be a lesbian? Its all so ridiculous, this gender bs.
And, i am not speakingnto your dh. Im saying all in general.
So, yeah, buy the kid a doll if he wants who cares.

I think it's great. And I'll tell you that going through EI with DS now, one of his therapists talks about how important role play is. So I say if he's into it, go for it. You can also do it with animals. DS looooves to feed his monkey and give it his sippy cup, etc.

Re: What do you think about toddler boys playing with dolls?
I bought ds a doll. He loves to take care of his baby. He even named him. We got a baby dressed in blue. Dh thought it looked more masculine lol He loves to push his baby in the doll carriage or put on it;s hat or in its binkie. I think it's adorable. I refuse to give into gender roles.

Would you mind posting a picture of the baby doll?
I'm going to pick one up against DH's wishes.

I agree with JennZ.
Landon has strollers, dolls, and carries around a bear with pink hearts on it. Who cares? He is learning how to be a good daddy.

DS has a boy doll, umbrella stroller, and kitchen. For Christmas, he is getting one of the FisherPrice doll houses.

Re: What do you think about toddler boys playing with dolls?
I bought a boy baby doll when I was PG to try and get the dog used to a baby. Now my DS loves it, and I say "go get the baby" and he runs and gets it DH kind of at it but he doesn't mind him playing with it. Now, if I went out and bought a doll FOR him specifically that would be an issue with DH.

Re: What do you think about toddler boys playing with dolls?
If we are at a house with little girls and there are dolls and strollers I would have no problem with my DS playing with it (although he tends to go for the boy related toys) but I would not buy him a doll or stroller to play with at home.
I asked DH if he played with dolls as a child and he said no...he played with GI Joe's, wrestling characters and the like and he is an EXCELLENT father.

Re: What do you think about toddler boys playing with dolls?
I got DS a baby doll (you and me baby brother) and a blue stroller. He used to love playing with it. . . but now just pretends the stroller is a lawn mower LOL. However, I think it is ridiculous that anyone would have issues with a child playing role play. As an educator there is so much research supporting it!

My husband is pretty masculine and never played with dolls when he was little...and he changes diapers, feeds our kids, rocks them, bathes them, etc.

Re: What do you think about toddler boys playing with dolls?
Does my DS plays with dolls, stroller etc.. Yes!!! He has two girls cousins. He also dances and sings to Justin Bieber. Do I have an issue with it NOPE.
Will I buy him a baby doll or a stroller, NO.
Would my husband have a comment if I wanted too - Yes. Does my DH change diapers - Heck yea. He also helps me pick out boots and clothes for myself. Or outfits for my nieces.
My point is just because a dad says no dolls for DS doesnt mean they are all "I am man, hear me roar" or "homophobes" (not that anyone wrote this specifically).
Do I think parents who buy dolls and strollers for a boy are nuts - Most definitely NOT.
AJ loves the kitchen, and my DH had made a comment. I said maybe he will be an awesome chef one day. So YOU continue to cook with your DS.
I think a man who can cook is sexy. A quality I wish DH had more of. I hate that eating a good mean relies on my 100% of the time

Re: What do you think about toddler boys playing with dolls?
I wanted to add he does have a little stuff mickey and elmo that he brought from his foster moms house.
When he drops it or leaves it on the floor, I do tell him they are crying. He does soothe them, hug them and put them to bed.

Re: What do you think about toddler boys playing with dolls?
I have no problem with it and will buy DS a doll if he shows interest. I told DH I want to buy DS a kitchen and he wasn't happy. Doesn't mean i'm not getting it though bc i am. I think some of it is that many of today's dad's grew up in the 70's and 80's when boys played gi joe, he-man, etc and that is what they know to be the norm. Culturally, there is still a lot of pressure on boys to be boys and girls to be girls, if you know what i mean. Gender stereotyping is getting better but it takes open minded people to keep things moving in the right direction.

Re: What do you think about toddler boys playing with dolls?
My DS loves baby dolls and pushing them around in the stroller. I don't see why any man should have an issue with this, especially a father. Why can a girl play mommy but a boy can't play daddy?

I would let my son play with one, but he treats his superhero stuffed animals like dolls, and gives them pretend bottles, changes their diapers, etc.

Right, but that does not mean that men who have played with dolls are not masculine.
