What do you wear for a family photo shoot?

I won the LIF Parenting prize of a family mini session and the tentative date for shooting is June 23rd. We are thinking a park with hiking trails or a beach as the location.

What do we wear? It is me, DH and my 5 year old son. Are we supposed to match in any way? Fancy? Casual?

I like when everyone wears a white (or any color) t-shirt and jeans (and no shoes on the beach).

We did our photo shoot in Hoboken. Both boys wore plaid shorts (sort of similiar) and a solid collared top. One in blue and one in orange. DH wore plaid shorts and a solid top as well. I think it was brown. I just wore a sundress.

I second white. I love a white top and denim or khaki bottom for a family shoot. In general, just try to keep the whole family monochromatic, preferably nothing too bright.

I don't like when everyone MATCHES - w/the exception of khaki w/ white or blue or whatever color you choose - Those pics always come out great!

I thiink it's nice to not totally CLASH color wise, and keep everyone in the same formality (casual, formal, jeans, etc) but I don't like when the kids are wearing lavendar, the dad's tie MUST be lavendar, the mom's sweater matches the kids perfectly - etc. -

We just scheduled our 1st family photoshoot for September and am already stressing about this and have commenced a serious diet and workout plan,

We did one last year at the Grange in Sayville (lots of green backgrounds) and I had my girls in matching yellow and white striped dresses (not very bold yellow)...I had on white jeans and a yellow and white striped tank (different yellow and thin stripes) with a sweater over it...My husband was in linen shorts and a white button front...it was all similar in tones but different prints, fabrics, etc.

I'd go with what you're comfortable in. For us it's jeans.

I also can't stand the matchy matchy family pictures. They remind me of the 80's or 90's.

I was always under the impression all white shirts was a no no. It's not really a flattering color on most if not all people.

I think complimentary colors work best.

This is from a fall family shoot we did in 2010 at the Arboretum.
We all wore dark denim jeans.


This is from a family shoot we did last year on the beach. It was the end of Sept/beginning of Oct I think. Again, all wearing dark jeans & complimenting colors.

Love the ideas!!!

DH and DS both decided to be in blue. DH in a navy polo and jeans, DS in a plaid shirt in blues/grays so its up to me to find a dress or something to wear.

At the beach We did the all white, (girls white dresses, DH wore white linen top, tan kakis)

Early fall: did cream sweaters, same colored jeans, girls wore complelening cranberry & brown, & cream sweaters.
