What does everyone think of the Measles outbreak/contamination - ADDED NEWSDAY ARTICLE . UPDATED AGAIN. CALLED THE HEALTH DEPT
I work in Garden City and alot of my co workers go to the source mall for lunch. (including me, but i havent been there recently) I am scared of germs just spreading.
I am not sure if I should call the health dept about a vaccine. They stated we are at high risk if we are pregnant.

I called the health dept. The newsday article makes it sound as if we should run down and get vaccinated. She said we cant get the vaccine anyway since we are pregnant.
She said most colleges will make you get the vaccine. So I probably had it 8 yrs ago when I went to college, but to check with my OB bc they usually do a routine blood test to see if we are vaccinated for certain diseases.
I called my OB. They didnt test me for the measles vaccine but they did for robella (sp?) and I was vaccinated for that. I was probably vaccinated for measles too, they just dont test for it.
She said I shoudnt worry since i was not there on Thurs. As far as the people around me having it and spreading it to me, that would be a rare case.
So - call your OB , they may know if you have been vaccinated.

are we at risk even if we're vaccinated?
Definitely call the health dept and ask for information. Then speak with your OB and make an informed decision

I have only heard about it but I do nont know any details. Is there an issue if you go there to shop now because people could be contimated? I probably sound dumb, but I don't understand it...and I want to go to Fortunoffs!

We were there Thursday, but they are saying between 5 and midnight and we were there in the afternoon. Should I call my ob or health dept to be safe?

def call your ob to see if they did bloodwork to see if you have been vaccinated for measles, some docs run this test, others dont.
You should know where you stand anyway. If you werent vaccinated, you cant get it now anyway, but it would be a good vaccine to have after the birth.

What do I think? I am really hoping that there are responsible journalists out there reporting the entire truth. I also hope the general public educates themselves before a panic ensues.
If this is truly a threat to the public, which it seems it could be, I pray that people act responsibly and do what they need to do to ensure the health and safety of their families and others who may have had any type of exposure.

Its funny I was just told I am not immune to Measles. I am immune to German Measles. I was not anywhere near there luckily-also not sure if I'm PG in 2ww after IVF

what do i honestly think?
i'm not worried at all about me. i know i've had all my shots.
what i also have been thinking about is this is exactly why my child WILL have all his vaccinations on schedule as long as he is not sick. we can be exposed to things all the time and, unless our babies are protected, they are vulnerable.
people from other countries don't have all the vaccinations we have and they can expose our babies to these terrible diseases. at least my baby will be protected.
