Re: What does the term "natural delivery" mean to you?
to me, natural means vaginal. with or without drugs.
babies were meant to be born that way, regardless if you use drugs or not.
if you choose to get a epi it doesn't make it any less "natural" just because you are trying to relieve some of the pain that goes with labor and delivery.
eta: i was not a natural birth, had to have a c/s. but I know they wanted me to go naturally b/c a c-section is major surgery. I wold have preferred to go vaginally, but i never dialted past 4 cms and they didn't give me cervadil or pitocin as I was only 32 weeks.

Re: What does the term "natural delivery" mean to you?
I always thought natural = vaginal with or without drugs.
Just that the baby came out the 'natural' way.
A c-section is surgery - that's not natural.
I had a natural delivery w/o an epidural but they eventually gave me pitocin. I dare anyone who heard me yelling in that hospital to tell me that wasn't natural.

Interesting article I found that pretty much eliminates any of us that showed up to deliver in a hospital as having a natural delivery

Natural means non-medicated.
Vaginal - with an Epi
I never ask someone if they had a natural childbirth. I usually ask if they had it Vaginally or C-Section!

Ditto, and I always get confused when people ask me if my deliveries were natural. I don't know if they mean vaginal or without drugs. Why people x even ask things like that IRL is beyond me anyway. That's in the same line as are you BF or FF, which to me falls in the MYOB category.

If you shave your vagina is the birth really natural? It doesn't look the same.
I guess my Brazilian bikini wax before I delivered DD made it unnatural (that and the epi)!
When I got Pitocin at the hospital, the Dr. said they were "augmenting" my labor. IMO, like breast augmentation, labor augmentation = unnatural . . . except for Eroxgirl.

There you go. Based on that, I'm out on my first delivery. They had to give me antibiotics.

I had Pitocin and Demerol (although I did NOT consent to it, whole other story ) but no epidural.
OMG-you poor thing. I cannot imagine getting Pitocin and not epidural

Re: What does the term "natural delivery" mean to you?
what if it was vaginal, no epi.. but, induced? Hmm I'm kind on the fence about that one. I guess it wouldn't be natural.

Re: What does the term "natural delivery" mean to you?
I think it means drug-free birth, but I find people use it a lot to refer to any type of vaginal birth since they don't like to say the word "vaginal."
To me, vaginal with an epi is a medicated vaginal birth and a C-section is a surgical birth. It surprises me that anyone would argue that a C-section is "natural" -- that one seems pretty cut (no pun intended) and dry to me.
I've had 2 drug-free births and usually just refer to them as that, drug-free, since "natural" tends to be a loaded term for some people.
