What exactly does a contraction feel like???
OK, so for a few days now I've had an on and off "tightening" and "pressure" down there. I mentioned it to the doctor and she said it was because the head is right there. It feels like it wants out.
Today it's gotten more frequent. I just started timing them... pretty much coming every 15-18 minutes and lasting about 30-60 seconds.
I have NO clue what to expect from a contraction  But this "feeling" is down low only...
Where are contractions supposed to hit?

If I remember correctly...mine hurt all over my stomach. Maybe more down low on my stomach, but not way down there. I do remember feeling a heaviness down there days before labor hit. Labor contractions felt like very bad gas pains to me. Also, FYI, the urge to push feels like you have to go #2 - big shock to me. Best wishes.

It is possible you are having mild contractions. I did for so long before I actually went into labor. Trust me, once they really start...you will know. There is no words to describe what it feels like.

Mine felt like menstrual cramps. It took me a few minutes to realize that they WERE contractions...but I was induced and fairly doped up by that point.

Bad period cramps, but your belly gets crazy hard - everything tightens inside - so its like a tight, squeezing, crampy, hardening feeling... I never got them really bad though - just early ones, then the ones from cervadil, and then I had the c section...

in the beginning they felt like menstrual cramps - then after a while it just hurt everywhere!! and as the baby comes down the canal it feels like you need to go #2!!

Could be...all in all its different for everyone. Some women feel "period cramps" others "pressure" some "a pain that radiates from the back"...

What your describing sounds more like braxton hicks to me. Mine felt like horrible gas/menstrual cramps -- I was also going to bathroom every 10 mins. I felt almost like I had a horrible flu coupled with menstrual cramps and an incredible backache.

this pretty much sums it up , and was exactly how it felt to me too

I felt CONSTANT pressure that would intensify every couple of minutes.
It felt like a cross between having to have a giant BM and really bad AF pains.
