what exactly is american cheese? why does it say "processed cheese food" on the label?
i am VERY discriminatiing when it comes to food shopping.
i havent bought kraft singles in over a year b.c i looked at the package and it said " processed cheese food"
what exactly is that? what is the difference between lets say cheddar and american cheese?
is the deli sliced american cheese ok to eat?

IDK, but it doesn't sit right with me a lot of the time so I try to avoid it at all costs and use real cheddar.

I was wondering that too!
I got Steve to stop eating it because there seemed to be just way too many ingredients for a slice of cheese - like Milk Protein Concentrate.

The Deli Deluxe cheese is real cheese, not "cheese food".

I don't know WHAT it is but it is one of my most despised food products ever! I have hated it ever since I came to this country and tried it. I don't really know what they use to make it, but it doesn't taste like cheese, because isn't one!!!

The American cheese you buy at the deli counter is the real cheese, it is not processed! Completely different taste.
The Kraft American cheese singles are processed. Did you ever look at the expiration date on a pack when you go to buy it? It's like years!!!
That said, I keep some Kraft cheese singles in my fridge to make quick grilled cheeses for my kids. They m uch prefer the processed. And it last a long time!

It is made with alot of chemicals.
I once had a package get pushed to the back of the fridge for 4 months & it didn't go bad. I don't think it's normal that cheese wouldn't spoil in 4 months. Im scared to know what preservatives are in it.
I normally have the Deli slice real cheese in that shape. DH still loves those Kraft Singles best.
