What is so good about Soy milk?

I have always wanted to try it. How does it taste? Is it better for you?

I don't know how it tastes, butI think it has more fiber in it. However, it still has more fat in it then skim milk does.

I drink 8th continent. I don't like the taste of regular milk, and it gives me a stomach ache. Soy milk is a good alternative for me.

8th continent is great and I think it has less calories and/or fat than Silk.

Re: What is so good about Soy milk?

DH has been drinking it for years, I forget what brand but it's vanilla flavored and in a blue container. Silk, I think it's called.

We won't drink it in coffee (eiw) but he uses it for cereal. I don't like it personally.

But I believe soy is supposed to be good for women. I see soy stuff all the time, like in oatmeal and vitamins.

However your body breaks down plant fat better and easier than animal fat. It's the difference between good fat (cholesterol) and bad fat (cholesterol).

It's a great milk replacement just without the dairy. I never thought I'd ever like it, but I love it. I have it in my coffee and oatmeal.

It has a nutty taste to it. If you get the unsweetened kind, the others have a bit of a sweeter taste to it.

OH, I get the Silk. Teal-colored container which is the unsweetened.

It has more protien than reg milk, and is also better to digest. When you think about it, cow's milk is intended for an animal that weighs over 2000 lbs & has a 4 part stomach, so why do we drink it?Chat Icon
I also like Goat's milk as an alternative, but it is hard to find & very expensive.

To me soy (I drink the vanilla mostly) tastes like skim.

What's good about it for me is that my body can actually digest it. Chat Icon

I didn't like the taste of it at first, but over the years I have gotten used to it. I like either the Silk Vanilla or the 8th Continent Chocolate.

There used to be a brand called SunSoy that was amazing, but I haven't seen it around in a while.

That is what I drink. Silk vanilla. There are tons of brands and flavors, some I love and some I hate. I also like rice milk.

It is high in protein, calcium and great for me cause my stomach can't handle milk (IBS).

It coagulates in coffee (looks gross), but the soy creamer is a good alternate.

Try the Silk brand. They have them in most supermarkets and come in smaller containers (just in case you dont like it, you wont waste a whole 1/2 gallon). Chat Icon

Silk has the most flavours, so it might be a good place to start. I also like 8th continent & Zen Soy.

Re: What is so good about Soy milk?

Soy is delciious. it also has zero cholesterol and the natual soy protein actually hlps lower cholesterol AND it a good natural estrogen that can be especially helpful for women in menopause.

it's very heart healthy. My FH has high cholesterol so I made him switch to soy, not only are you eliminating the cholesterol in reg. milk, but the isoflavones naturally lower cholesterol.

Good stuff!

Not everyone is going to like soy milk, but it's not like regular milk where it all tastes the same.

Some brands of soy are really disgusting anf some are SOOO delicious.

Also it does take some getting used to, like the switch from regular to skim.
