what is the deal with sleep positioners? poll attached & recommendations welcome
If I recall correct they were not recommended by Baby Bargains but a friend recommended one to me.
Also my MIL was telling me she used to roll up towels for my DH and BIL when they were babies.
Also, please recommend one that you think is good, I am flip flopping on this Image Attachment(s):

I've heard rather awful things about them...kids can easily slide down in them and it creates a suffocation risk. There's a story about a NY family, they had twins...they used the positioners and one of them died from suffocating on it.
For the most part, you don't need anything anyway...you're supposed to put them on their backs and they can't roll over right away. Your MIL likely wanted her sons on their sides and used rolled up blankets. Some hospital staff member suggested we could do that if we wanted to keep DS on his side...I have refrained.
We received one as a shower gift, I threw it away.

I've heard and read that they are unnecessary and should only be used if recommended by pediatrician in case your baby suffer from gastric/acid reflux...

I've heard and read this also that's why I put one down on my registry. My cousins baby has gastric/acid reflux (poor baby) and the dr said it is best if his upper body is slightly elevated to improve digestion. The one I registered for does this.

thanks for the help- after further research I am not going to get one unless the pediatrician advises.
Thanks again

I heard that rolled up towels are acutally better. However, I registered for a positioner, figuring that if I get it as a gift and I have it on hand it may save me one errand if I need it. I think I will use it for some time anyway.

I was told not to use them as the baby can readjust and suffocate on them.

I plan on not using one. I am worried about the baby getting a flat head due to sleeping on it's back so I might try the rolled up towels/blanket thing.

Re: what is the deal with sleep positioners? poll attached & recommendations welcome
Newborns love to feel all snuggled up and cosy, sort of enclosed in a nest. They do this with preemies in the hospital. I had a sleep positioner and returned it, it was a waste. I used rolled up towels and that was great.
