What is the deal with toddler formula?
I just got a sample in the mail, is this just a way for formula companies to make more $$?
Are you supposed to give that instead of cow's milk, is that the idea?

Re: What is the deal with toddler formula?
It more closely resembles cow's milk but with added iron or something. We had a hard time weaning my son off formula because of digestive issues and we used the toddler formula mixed with milk for a while.

Re: What is the deal with toddler formula?
I don't really think anyone uses it
Well, I think if a ped recommends it b/c of an underweight child or poor nutrition, then maybe
ETA-I have a can too if you want it, and it is newer b/c it is from when I signed my SIL up and my nephew is 18 mos

good post, I just got a sample too. I may hang on to it so I don't have to buy more formula.

Re: What is the deal with toddler formula?
I know some feel its a good way to continue to give them DHA
Frankly it seemed a waste to me. My pedi said it wasnt necessary as she transitioned to milk well (even considering those first few weeks of trial/error).
So yeah I think its a $$ thing.
ETA: That said... we used ours! figured it was better than throwing it away! hahaha

Marketing ploy by formula companies to keep you as a customer for longer than 12 months.

ITA. An absolute waste of $$$, unless there is some nutrional reason why your child will do better with the formula than milk, but I don't know anyone who uses it.
Milk only costs around $4 a gallon--I was thrilled to not have to shell out so much for formula once the time came.

Re: What is the deal with toddler formula?
It is actually for 2 reasons ; for formula companies to make more money but to help toddlers with poor eating habits get the nutrition they are lacking - and continue DHA
I actually keep a can in my house and use it for these reasons
- have no milk in the house and I am too lazy to go to the store - going to be out all day and can't pack milk -when my son eats poorly -a few times a week to get some DHA in
