varies by county
8.125% to about 8.625% I think

The state sales tax is 4.625%
Each borough/county then can charge their own tax on top of that. Suffolk does not charge sales tax, Nassau's sales tax is 4%
Suffolk - 4.625%
Nassau - 8.625%
I'm not sure what the city is/does.

NYC is no tax on clothes under a certain amount
not sure about on regular stuff- I am sure I have a reciept for something in my purse -
no receipt from an NYC store- but I am going to target later
