What is the point of a
I always made a big deal about my half birthday because it falls on my mom's bday (and what is looking to be LO's birthday -- tomorrow!) and it was always fun to acknowledge myself before saying happy birthday to her. Of course, this worked when I was excited about being a year older and she wasn't because when it came time for her half birthday (my bday), I would always just round up her age so she didn't want to make a big deal of it! We never actually celebrated my half birthday, it was just something funny we did!

I gave DS a half birthday cake on his 6 month 'b-day'. I made half a cake. I forgot to do it for DD, and haven't done half birthdays since. It was just an excuse to eat cake really.

I knew of someone who used to celebrate her half birthday every year in high school- she even went as far as to throw a party in a hall for her 16 1/2 birthday (this was AFTER her actual sweet 16 party which was at the same hall).

I love the idea of half birthdays! Any excuse to celebrate!
The only person I know IRL who celebrates them is my friend. Her daughter has cancer and they celebrate her monthly birthdays in a small way - and her half birthday and actual birthday in a big way. It makes her feel good to say she is 26 in half birthdays because she might not actually make it to 26 years old.
Omg this is so sweet and sad ad the same time!

My nieces had half birthday parties last summer. They both have bdays bw Christmas and New Years and always asked to have pool parties, so SIL decided to do half year parties.
The only problem was when their real birthdays rolled around, the summer parties were quickly forgotten and they wanted another one

This is so sweet but so sad. I really hope she is able to celebrate her full 26th birthday and many more!!

I did bake a cake for DS for his first 1/2 birthday. My coworkers liked it since they got the other half of the cake. Sadly for DS, I'm not even sure we let him have a taste.

I've never doneit but I think it's cute for kids, I see no problem with having a cake or 1/2 cake to mark a 1/2 birthday. Why not, we need more reasons to celebrate.

Re: What is the point of a "half birthday?"
yup i've heard of a lot of people doing them.
It's for those winter babies who get shafted on parties and nice weather.
my son's birthday is 1/23 and when he gets older, i might consider doing it.
We have a lot of friends. His birthday party is this weekend in our house. 44 adults and 21 kids.
my 1st sons birthday is 6/30 and we have an outside party every year. MUCH easier having everyone outside.

But if people are invited to all of these half birthdays AND regular birthdays, the committment and expense adds up.

Ditto I did it for DS at 6 months, and D at 6 months as well, then kept forgetting. Oh well

I've never been to, or had a half birthday (for a 6 month old) that people brought gifts to. That is NOT what it's about at all.

if we ever do them one day, we wouldn't have 2 parties. Would just celebrate his birthday on his half birthday with a party.

My mom did it for us as kids...it started with me (I'm the oldest) and my birthday is in August so I never go to have a school party with all my little friends so she would talk to my teacher and we celebrated it in February in school, then as my other siblings came along it just became a thing to celebrate our 1/2 bday with our fam...so we would make, 1/2 a cake, make 1/2 a card, get a silly small gift...put 1/2 the candles, it would just be us at home but we had so much fun with it and it's a childhood memory I will cherish forever! I still wish my mom and siblings a happy 1/2 bday....btw mine is coming up!

In my kid's elementary school the kids with summer bdays get their half birthday celebrated. I've never heard of it outside of that.

Ahhh it's pinterest. They also arrange kid's lunch into different animal shapes each day.

I don't know a single person who has ever celebrated their half birthday.
There is someone at my job who does because her birthday is in the summer and she wants to have cake at work.

i only know about it from high school...we would decorate our friends' lockers on their birthdays....but the summer birthday girls never got the chance...so it was big in our HS for summer birthday girls to get their locker decorated on their half birthdays...
but that's it - wrapping paper and a balloon...no gifts or anything! haha
Curious what school did you go to. We did this as well at my highschool.
