What is your favorite classic book?
I need to start reading more of the classics and am looking for suggestions.
Thanks!

Re: What is your favorite classic book?
Pride & Prejudice
Just read it last year and loved it. I watch the movie when it's on TV whenever I can (not as good as the book but I don't care). It took me awhile to get into it though. Once in awhile I force myself to read a classic and it takes me awhile to adjust to that period's writing.

The Age of Innocence
ETA My LIF Name really gives away another of my other all time favorite. There is just something haunting about Age that I love. It's also a great movie!

Re: What is your favorite classic book?
I just read Pride & Prejudice again after seeing the movie. Finished it in 3 days. That & Jane Eyre are my favorites, I think.

Same and same! It's always neck and neck with The Catcher in the Rye though!

Re: What is your favorite classic book?
I love so many of the ones mentioned here, but if I had to pick my top three, they would be: To Kill a Mockingbird Pride and Prejudice A Tree Grows in Brooklyn I never get tired of teaching any of them, year in and year out.

Re: What is your favorite classic book?
I LOVE classic fiction...in fact, i don't think i've made it through more than 5 "modern" fiction novels...they're just not my thing.
ANYTHING Hemingway, but particularly his works after he befriended F. Scott Fitzgerald. My absolute favorite Hemingway is "A Farewell to Arms". I must note that I can't stand "The Old Man and the Sea". HATE IT.
I enjoy short stories a lot too - Hemingway, Fitzgerald, Salinger--- anyone, really!
I also really like female lit. Margaret atwood.... oh, AND "The Bell Jar" - Sylvia Plath.
