Re: What is your favorite classic book?
I love The Great Gatsby (and if you are looking for a recent book that incorporates a class The Double Bind is fantastic as well)
I love Wuthering Heights as well

Re: What is your favorite classic book?
Great thread Miki.....I'm adding it to my notebook.
I'm devastated that the ONLY books out of EVERYTHING that these ladies have posted that I HAVE read were Huck Finn and Of Mice and Men. The only other one I can add to this is Romeo & Juliet.
I'm so sad that my English teachers throughout my academic career didn't require me to read more classics. I really should do it now, before my son has to do a paper on one of them

Re: What is your favorite classic book?
In addition to what was listed, I really loved The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman.
Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston.
I took a women's lit class in college and I'm trying to remember some of the stories we read.
Edgar Allen Poe - The cask of amontillado, THe fall of the house of usher, The Tell-tale heart, The Raven
When I was a kid I LOVED the Little House series and Nancy Drew series.
I keep wanting to try Anna Karenina by Tolstoy.

Re: What is your favorite classic book?
A Tree Grows in Brooklyn Catcher in the Rye Of Mice and Men The Chronicles of Narnia Charolettes Web Tom Sawyer Wuthering Heights
I <3 them all! I would love to teach Catcher in the Rye, but I teach 7th grade. I think my students would love it, but do not think it would be approved.

Pride and Prejudice Jane Eyre First, not sure how old this post is lol.
But yes. Love both could read them again.
Also I would recommend Anna Karenina (I read in Russian not sure how the English translation is) One of my favorites.

Re: What is your favorite classic book?
So many that were mentioned already.... Tree Grows in Brooklyn, To Kill a Mockingbird (my dog's name is Scout), and Catcher in the Rye are prob my all-time favorites.
Short story -- have got to be The Last Leaf, and The Gift of the Magi.....I love them both - O. Henry.

I really love early english literature...I am a HUGE fan of Shakespeare, though I do have my favorites, it pains me to say them outloud LOL (of course, a dead Bard can still hear me ) so I won't list my fav Shakespeares but here are some others
Canterbury Tales Pride and Prejudice Another Country (also shorter..Sonny's Blues) The Sun Also Rises In Cold Blood Brave New World Ethan Frome Don Quixote Beloved Heart of Darkness The Stranger Jane Eyre Sir Gawain and the Green Night Young Goodma Brown Aesop's Fables Grimm's Fairy Tales Paradise Lost The Inferno the Norton Anthology
there are more...I just can't think of them
