What is your favorite style house?

Mine is a colonial. I grew up in a high ranch (raised ranch, bilevel, ehatever you want to call it) and I'm not a fan, but that seems to be what is in our price range mostly.

I also like ranches and expanded capes.

I would actually love an expanded ranch but those are almost impossible to find by me. Next would be a colonial and then a cape. I am not a fan of the layout of a high ranch.

I always thought I wanted a hi ranch.
I bought an expanded ranch, it has a second floor.
Our layout is awesome; our house is huge. From the street people have no idea how large our home is. Love that everyone is on 1 floor and bedrooms and living areas are separated.

I grew up in a colonial, which I love. We currently live in a split which I'm slowly warming up to. My only main complaint with a split is that I have a ton of space vertically (basement level, den level, main living level, bedroom level) but feel its small horizontally.

I grew up on the first floor of 2 family dutch colonial. (Grandparents had 2nd floor and attic.) I eventually moved to the 2nd floor of that house. I currently live in a sideline hi ranch. I do not like the current layout. House feels choppy and similar to a 2 family house. I love my sister n law's center hall colonials out of state.

Colonial is my favorite and that is what we bought. I also love a sprawling ranch. I liked splanches too.

I grew up in an L-shaped ranch, lived in a ranch style townhouse for many years, now we have an expanded ranch ( it's 2 stories now), my dad lived in a ranch as did my grandparents my whole childhood.
My favorite suburban style is ranch probably because it's what I'm comfortable with.
barn style is my actual favorite but is rarely found around here.

Outside appearance? Victorian.
Inside layout? Colonial

I really don't like the look of a Colonial exterior. Too symmetric and imposing. I like the look of the more artistic Victorian.

Ironically, when I had my house expanded (that I did the bulk of the designing on), I went from a roughly salt-box style house to a full-on Colonial....

It's like the mini-van of houses. Not ugly, but not beautiful. Tons of space, and so practical for a family. Private areas upstairs, and public areas downstairs. Efficient use of space.

Most of my clients would prefer a traditional colonial, if they could afford it. I would say that's the most "popular" style on LI.

Splits are becoming more and more of a popular style, too.

I think sometimes people have to be open minded when it comes to "style," because there are different types/models within a style, and people customize and expand homes in different ways.

For example, when I was searching for a home, I was against a split level, because I was picturing a small tri-level split (like the kind I grew up in). I ultimately did buy a split, but it's a much larger home with a master bath, above grade den, 2 car garage, etc. So I'm glad I stayed "open" when I was looking. Similarly, many clients say they don't want a cape, but what they really don't want are low pitched ceilings on the second level, and are fine with a dormered cape.

I love expanded capes. But when looking I never found one that fit what I wanted. Then I thought I wanted a ranch but then when I was looking I felt like everything was on top of everything and there was really no privacy. We ended up buying a Colonial which had the exact layout I was looking for and gave me that privacy that I wanted. The only house I did not want and would not even look at were splits. My sister has one and I really dislike her layout. I always feel like I'm stepping up or down to get somewhere. I love my house now but I'm not to thrilled with the exterior as it looks too "boxy" for me, but we can work on that in the future.

Center hall colonial is my favorite. It is what I grew up in and what we just purchased. My only wish is that we had a basement, but to get that where we wanted to move to was another $100,000 and out of our price range.

I grew up in a ranch and like that all of the living space is on one floor with a large basement.

When we bought a house, I wanted something different and we bought a split. I love our house, but sometimes I get so tired having to go up and down the stairs for everything. I also have a toddler and I'm pg so that makes the stairs harder, so we'll see how I feel when the kids are a little older.

Ideally, I'd like to sell this house for a colonial in a few years, but I don't know that we'll be able to afford one in the areas we'd like to live in.

I can't get into high ranches or capes, even dormered capes.

Any style as long as it's pre-wwII. The older the better.
Victorians, Dutch Colonials, Four Square, Craftsman, etc.

Love the exterior of Tudors...but have usually found them to be too dark on the inside
